If there is anything you can do to help, please do so and spread the word. This is horrific, I just cannot imagine....One of the dobes that was stolen is a young dobergirl who had been thrown off a bridge and has been recovering.. .just unbelieveable that people would do this!! Monitor Craigslists and shelters please.

> "Tammara Josslyn in Johnson City TN called frantic. Someone just broke into her Doggie Day care and stole 10 of her Dobermans. Some were her personal dogs, and some were rescue dogs. Her niece was watching over the place and confronted the men, one of them dropped the dog he was carrying and ran after her, if I understood correctly she was cut before managing to get away. Not all of the dogs were microchipped yet and not all of them were spayed or neutered due to medical reasons and their stage of recovery. Poor little Blush, the girl that was thrown off the bridge, who was still recovering from her ordeal was stolen.
> Yesterday a man stopped by asking her about buying one of the dogs. She said he seemed shady and they told him none were for sale. They suspect he is the one that did this horrible thing. She asked for me to get the word out to everyone that I knew. Please spread the word and let’s pray that these babies will be found and returned safely. They can be seen at her Petfinder site Canine Hope All Breed Rescue, Johnson City, TN http://www.caninehoperescu e.org

How horrible! I've crossposted this to some other lists, lets hope those dogs turn up safely and that the criminals are put in jail. It's so scary how bold they were, to think they attacked the woman with a knife!

This is HORRIBLE  I hope they are all found safe and sound, returned, and the dognappers given their just rewards.

BUT:
This surprises me from a breed stand point. These men were strangers on the property, and even CHASED a care giver the dobes knew? Full grown dobes, and not puppies?

I personally have never met a dobe that appreciated any stranger on "their property" without the approval of their human. And even if a few of them were medically incapacitated, that doesn't account for all TEN  Very odd, and my first thought would be someone the dobes knew and had been allowed to be there in the past, introduced to the dogs as friends and such. (and even THEN it doesn't mean the dobes would allow it if the master was away) Add on top of that STRANGERS loading them all up without a struggle from them? WEIRD! *shrugs* Just my first thought on the matter.

ACooper, I was thinking the same thing. Honestly, if that is the reaction of all those dobes, I'd be inclined to say that there is something very wrong in the dobie breed as a whole if that's the odds... I don't mean that in a derogatory way, either. I hope breeders do realize this and take pains in their breeding programs to emphasize CORRECT dobie temperament. They should not be golden retrievers in dobie-like bodies.

This happens in the German shepherd world too, sadly. This is again why I despise the breeders who breed away from any aggression/protection temperament. Certain aggression is GOOD and it must come with solid nerves and a clear head. That a Doberman would not go down fighting these men- ESPECIALLY when the man knifed the caretaker of these dogs- is probably a bigger shame for the breed than the fate of these individual dogs. I sincerely hope that most dobies would have taken a stand.

I think the rescues I could *maybe* understand..........they might be used to being shuffled around, maybe don't have a sense of "my property/my humans" and are used to different workers in and out supplying their needs. But her own personal dobes as well? That one baffles me greatly.

I know from living with my last doberboy there is no way in HELL he would go down like that........and no way someone would knife a family member unless he was safely contained before hand. He proved himself on more than one occasion.

Orson has not had to prove his protection instincts as far as putting himself between me and an intruder so that is an unknown. But I can tell your for sure 100% they wouldn't be touching HIM without a struggle, LOL. Guests to our home (his property) must be welcomed by us, come in, have a seat and NOT try to touch him until he has had opportunity to inspect all he wants...........then and only then will he allow them to pet. If they try it before that, he ducks away and backs up........never taking his eyes off them, I know his stare and stance, if they pushed the issue I am pretty sure he'd warn them and then bite if that didn't work.

People on walks or at stores? He could care less what they do or don't do as long as they mind their business and leave us to our personal space. He isn't looking to attack anyone, and generally likes people, but he is as he should be in the respect of wary, watchful, and 'suspicious' of strangers. THAT is what makes me go Hmmmmmmmm at the above story. I wouldn't want to try and wrangle 2-3 Orsons as a stranger, let alone 8-10  LOL

I guess if the dogs were caged/kenneled and they had 'catch poles' it could work........but what are they intending on doing with them after they get to point B?

I found this on a Doberman forum, there are a total of 13 dogs that were stolen, three were non-dobers.

Here's her main website, there is a slideshow with pics of the stolen dogs: Canine Hope All Breed Rescue

First of all thank you to everyone who has posted, given suggestions, helped in each and every way. I cannot begin to tell you how devastated I am over the disappearance of these dogs. This is the biggest nightmare. I thought getting ill dogs, hard transports, and bad adoptions were the nightmares I might face but never, ever this situation. I so badly want each and every one of these dogs back. I have gotten great suggestions from people and have been busy trying to implement them.

I have posted to the front of our rescue webpage and have the dog's pictures there Canine Hope All Breed Rescue. I am saving the detailed information for those that will be reading this email. I want anyone who sees this to be on the lookout for these dogs. I have no idea where they could be and so please don't think if you are states away from Tennessee that you might not run across one.

If you have any leads - please share them with us. We love these dogs, many are ill, special needs, and need us. We need your help. Please, please help us.

There were 13 dogs stolen. Yesterday we were reporting 14, but one of the dogs was written twice on the original list and we did not know this until later in the day, we just kept saying the number after we had one. Things were frantic and we were just trying to get the information out there. So there are 10 Dobermans and 3 other dogs missing.

1) Pippin is an adult, male, neutered Min Pin. He is very friendly, very trusting. He thinks every dog is going to like him and there are no mean people or mean dogs. He stands often with his left foot off the ground. We believe this is an old injury.

2) Puddles is a young adult, spayed female black lab. She is small in size, very friendly and goofy and playful as all puppies should be. She is confident and will stand her ground with male dogs, loves to play ball. She has a very different look to her face, very cute, feminine, sweet eyes. We recently had an application come in for Puddles. She was very close to going to her forever home.

3) Honey is a medium size shepherd mix. She weighs about 40 pounds. Very active, eats a lot since she is always on the go! Her tail does not wag back and forth but moves like a helicopter in a circle. Honey was a resident dog of the Day Care and was a Hurricane Katrina survivor.

4) Disney is a spayed female red and rust Doberman adult. She has a docked tail and natural ears. She is a quiet, easy going girl, very people and dog friendly and has a disease called von Willebrand. It is a blood clotting disorder. She needs medicine around her at all times.

5) Fame is a spayed female, black and tan Doberman, cropped ears that do not stand all the way and a docked tail. She is dog friendly, people friendly, very good with other dogs. She is very people oriented and will want to be with people as much as possible.
We have a great forever home waiting on her in NC.

6 & 7) Charger and Rumor are owned by my niece. Charger has cropped ears but one stands half way, he has a docked tail. He is tall and leggy. Charger has special needs with his diet and can often get bouts of chronic diarrhea and can lose weight easily. His diet has to be watched strictly. He is a senior and has a very sensitive and yet playful personality. Rumor is a small female, she is black and tan, natural ears and docked tail. She has very distinctive round eyes and her small stature is noticeable. Both she and Charger are very people and dog friendly. They have been neutered and spayed.

8) Noble is a red and rust Doberman. He has not been neutered. He has various health issues, and is not friendly with men nor with other male dogs. He has a docked tail and natural ears. He is friendly to women. He is thin, nervous and watchful acting, not playful and silly as most males are when they are young adults. I really can’t believe he went with anyone or they had an easy time with him. This is the only pic I have him that shows his head good – sorry for the quality.

9) Flash is a male, neutered, black and tan Dobe with a very distinct ear set. He is very people friendly, likes female dogs that are medium size or older. His previous owner
made it his job to keep the neighbor’s cats out of the yard so he likes to chase cats and would do the same with small dogs. He is a sweet dog.

10) Dazzle is a young male adult, red and rust, neutered dog with three legs, he has a docked tail and cropped and standing ears. He lost his front left leg and was a neglect and abuse case. He is very small for a male. More the size of a female. He has a “deer” appearance with his long neck and his ear crop. He has a docked tail. He is very, very people and dog friendly and needs great care paid to his one good front leg. We were pursuing two homes for Dazzle and had home checks tentatively planned.

11) Radar is a completely blind, black and tan male Doberman with natural ears and a docked tail. He has special commands that he knows that alert him someone is going to touch him, put a leash on him, which ways to turn, walk, etc. He has come a long way since he was found as a stray. He is very dog friendly and people friendly. He was a resident of the daycare and had a friend that was a seeing eye dog for him and he was very familiar to the layout of the property. He will be nervous and shy without his usual surroundings.

12)Blush is a very sweet and happy young red and rust female. She is from an abuse case where she was thrown from a bridge and landed on railroad tracks. She had a very long road to get to where she is with her health at this point. She could barely stand, unsteady to walk, etc. With her supplements and medicines she has done very well and we were hoping x-rays and her next exam would get a go ahead for her to be spayed and she could be placed in a forever home. We have many applications waiting on her.

13) Bliss is a red and rust female, with a docked tail and natural ears which can look just a little too heavy. She is a littermate to Blush and is a bit on the shy and soft side. She is very sweet and loving once she feels safe in your presence.

Please look for these dogs at shelters, vets offices, someone selling them, etc. Maybe some might be wandering loose. Please share any info or ideas for finding them. Please feel free to cross post.

"Making A Difference One Dog At A Time"

And sadly, many dobermans I meet these days would not have the nerve to protect. For example, my friend and her husband have a female doberman, small in size, who is does NOT have proper doberman temperament. She is very sweet, wants nothing more than to be pet, and and is pretty much the anti-protection dog. If somebody accosted her owners, she'd probably just hide behind them. This dog has been bred to a purebred doberman three times (and to a mutt once). So you can imagine the temperaments being produced these days by my friend's husband and others like him. :(

Just wanted to update this - since I live in Johnson City, TN and it has been all over the news and with local dog people.

JohnsonCityPress.com - Local News - Johnson City, TN

The dogs are still missing, but the break-in report was a lie — at least that’s what Johnson City Police investigators said Thursday about the dog-napping at a local doggy day care and rescue facility.

Ashli N. Thomas, 24, of Johnson City, was arrested on charges of filing a false police report after she told police someone broke into Cool School for Dogs early Tuesday and made off with 13 dogs — including her own two Doberman Pinschers.

According to a police news release, Thomas gave a statement Thursday afternoon and said the original report was not true.

“Miss Thomas admitted that she made the story up because she had left the dogs unattended and had not been caring for the dogs properly,†Investigator Bret Richardson wrote in the news release.

Thomas and Cool School’s owners, Brad and Tammara Josselyn, were also cited on eight counts of animal cruelty, but investigators did not provide how the cruelty had occurred.

Tammara Josselyn either founded or helped found an all-breed dog rescue organization called Canine Hope Rescue. The Josselyn’s use their day care to house some of the rescued animals.

But during the alleged dog caper, Thomas reported that 10 rescue dogs and three others dogs were stolen by a man who had broken through a back fence and into the downstairs playroom where the rescue dogs and boarded dogs sleep.

Thomas — whose address is listed on Newbern Drive but had been living in an apartment at the day care — told investigators that after she went to investigate why the dogs were barking, she found a downstairs light on and then saw the back door open.

She said she approached a man who was loading dogs into the back of a white commercial van and that he pulled out a knife and cut her in the side.

Debbie Dobbs, director of the Washington County/Johnson City Animal Control Center, confirmed that her officers seized a total of 20 dogs that were rescue animals being housed at the day care.

Dobbs said the animal shelter received a complaint of cruelty and neglect after officers went to Cool School to investigate the alleged burglary.

“It was not only coat neglect but starvation (and) not maintaining the premises,†she said. “There were filthy conditions."

Two dogs that were being boarded at the facility were also taken, but are temporarily housed at a local veterinarian’s office until their owner can be notified.

Animal activist groups across the region and nation quickly started an e-mail, blog and Internet campaign Tuesday to get the word out about the missing dogs — and to lend their moral support to Cool School and its operators.

Now, those members and people commenting on those sites have expressed outrage at the turn of events in the investigation.

Anyone with information about any of the dogs alleged to be missing can call 911 or the Washington County/Johnson City Animal Shelter at 926-8769.

So, if all that bad was going on..... why would you call the cops in about 13 dogs that never actually existed?

No, the dogs exist. They are even still on Petfinder from what I last saw. They don't know what happened to them at this point.

This has been popping up all over my various rescues lists. Below is the most recent from Pilots N Paws:

First, let me thank ALL of you for coming together, networking and working
towards finding these missing dogs, I am very proud to be a part of the
rescue community. In case you are unaware, the niece involved with this
case has been arrested for a false report. Unfortunately, the directors of
Canine Hope Rescue are facing animal abuse charges.

The fact remains that 13 dogs are still missing. Unfortunately, the niece
lied about "how" they disappeared. The media's language disregards that
fact, saying the story was "made up". Yes, the way they disappeared was
made up but the fact that they disappeared is still a fact! Many believe
that the niece knows what happened to the dogs. Hopefully, she will come
forward with the remainder of the truth if she does know.

Regarding the animal abuse charges. From what I am told, there were new
rescue dogs in the facility and yes, some were in need of care. Most dogs
who enter rescue are. I was not there, none of us were there, so I choose
to not rush to judgement. The truth will come out in time. Keep in mind,
that Canine Hope Rescue is a group that many many of us have worked with
for several years now. Rarely does a rescue group who are abusive stay in
business. Our pilots have flown some of the dogs from this rescue. All have
reported that the animals were on their way to healing.

I have been in contact with the TN state representative of the HSUS. She
called me yesterday, offering assistance. She knows about these charges and
her focus remains on finding the missing dogs. As has been stated here,
other dogs have in fact been stolen from shelters not that far away. I was
told by the state rep that animal theft has been rampant in TN. So, where
are the missing dogs? And who will take the dogs that were confiscated
today and sent back to the shelter, many who have been there before?

Just devastating on so many levels. Please continue to focus on finding
these animals and if anyone has room to take in the animals who were
confiscated today, please get in touch with the Johnson City Shelter.
Hannah is the rescue representative there.

Thank you all again for working so hard to locate these dogs.
