and suddenly think you can let your dog run free. I see it over and over again. somebody moves here...thinks they have a couple acres...so they let Rover out the door. well..dogs ROAM and wander far...and that puts a bullet out for them. sorry to say it, but it's true. we know who owns what dog here in our immediate area, (and we know any dog can get loose) any other dog is on the other end of a scope. NOBODY wants a 'stray' dog on their property, so if in fact you think you are suddenly living in the country..where dogs run free oh so happy...please think again. there is a border collie running loose, and I saw him this morning having his pleasure pottying allllllll over my property. fine..I'm not gonna shoot him, but I can tell you 3 other property owners here will. without remorse. it's insane to let your dog run. period. country..city...don't do it.

I bag up all the poop from the offending dog and deliver it home for the owners. Last time we had the neighbors GSD shitting all over the front yard and my FIL stepped in it, then tracked it in my house. Accidents happens, but hot dang on a stick, I was MAAAAD that there was crap in my front yard to begin with (don't worry about the back so bad, but I bag poop out front, don't want the yard smelling like hot dog sh!t under the sun if someone comes to my door, you know?).

So yeah, bagged it all, put it in a grocery bag, and hung it from the front door knob. Just returning what is rightfully theirs!

And yes, I fully realize I am immature and petty. I don't care. Don't let your dog crap in MY yard. Or you'll get it back.

Good for you. We have a small park across the street from where I live. Their is a guy here who has a huge bernese mountain dog that he does not pick up after even though their are doggy bags provided. One day I was parking my truck and I sat their and watched the dog take a dump. He then walked back over without picking it up so I got a doggy bag and picked it up. Then I placed the bag on the sidewalk outside his door.

He was not to happy about it and said that if I had a problem with it that I should have talked to him first. He was reminded of how I talked to him in the past. Nothing has changed he still does not pick it up so my next move will be to get it on video somehow and post it to You Tube along with showing it to the park rangers so they can give him a summons.

I'm not talking about immature and petty 'picked up my dog poop and moved it' here. I'm talking about people that think they moved to the country...now let their dogs roam...and they should now know their beloved dog will now be shot. get on the same page here......you're not talking about what I'm trying to prevent. COUNTRY..DON'T let your dogs RUN. it ISN'T safe........it will get them shot.

Uh.. you're talking about loose dogs that crap in your yard. So am I. I also live in the country. I also live where people will shoot to protect life and property. I ALSO happened to mention how *I* dealt with the crap in my yard. So sorry it wasn't to your liking.

For the sake of staying on topic (since that seems important to you), I agree. People who think an acre or two is license to let Fido roam are idiotic.

HOWEVER, I don't think being a responsible pet owner is exclusive to the type of property you have. When you take on a dog you should know that it entails not letting it roam, not letting it nuisance your neighbor (ie, not letting it crap in neighbors yard) ), not letting it bark all hours of the night, etc etc.

You seem hung up on the fact that it might get shot and that the Jones' have moved to the country with Dear Fido, when I think you should be focusing on the fact that they seem to be IRRESPONSIBLE PET OWNERS and were likely just as stupid back in the city.

I think there are people who move from the city and are good dog owners, who believe now Fido has room to roam. Unfortunately, dogs don't get the concept of property lines. There is more chance a dog will get a bullet, not just a bag of poop on the offending owners doorknob.

I think we're one of the few on our road who keep their dogs behind a fence. It's not just shooting dogs - the guy down the road has been known to put out poison for dogs who stray onto his property. Then there are the 'bunchers' who drive around and grab whatever dog they can get hold of; the neighbors lost their Chow that way - never did get him back and he was a really nice dog...

lol I would be too paranoid to let my dog loose, even if I lived in the country. goodness knows he would follow a squirrel til the end of the earth if I let him..

yeah..i wouldn't want to just let my dog run off....people need to be more cautious and aware of the danger that may put their dog in..

Anyone who finds a strange dog on their property, harassing their pets or livestock... They are within their legal rights to shoot the dog. Unfortunately, a lot of folks out here see their dogs as expendable - Rover didn't come home? Oh well, let's get another puppy...

Any farmer that loses livestock because of that dog. And where I grew up (Catskills), it was legal to shoot any dog seen chasing or harrassing deer.

I was told when I moved here if our dogs were found harassing sheep they would be shot.

When I lived in TX, the neighbor's dogs came onto my property and were attacking my goats. I wasn't home at the time, but my other neighbor called the sheriff who came out and shot the dogs.

2 of my goats were almost killed, one would have died if I hadn't of been so insistant on finding him before I went to sleep. His neck was completely tore open and he was barely concious.

While I wouldn't have shot the dogs myself, I see no reason why it would be not be allowed. The dog has every right to come on MY property and kill my goats? I don't think so.

lots of dogs have died attacking livestock. So keep them away, unless they're your livestock
