I think it would be neat to do a comparison between which breeds we love, and which breeds we honestly think that would suit us.

I love:
Papillons, Cavaliers, Welsh Springer Spaniels, St Poodles, Whippets, Salukis, Sussex Spaniels, Tollers, English Cockers, Am Cockers (((Well, all spaniels and sporting breeds. :D))) Gordon Setters, Eng Setters, Kooikerhondje, Redbone Coonhounds, Sealyham Terriers, Boston Terrier, Boerboel

Breeds that honestly suit me:
Papillons (Of Course! :)) Cavaliers, Am Cockers, Clumber Spaniels(possibly), Eng Cockers (possibly), an older field bred English Setter (to be specific. lol), St Poodle (possibly), Boston (possibly)

I love Welsh Springers, but after meeting many @ dog shows, I have decided their not the breed for me.. I love the look of Whippets and Salukis, but.. I don't really like the temperments. I love all sporting breeds (well, mostly. ;) ). Some of the Setters and the Toller are more energy than I like.. I love Redbone Coonhounds, sweet dogs, but not for me..I don't like the terrier temperment. The Boerboel is my favorite mastiff type dog, but would never own one.

I love Bostons. It's a breed I will always and forever love. I don't know though, we shall see. :) I really like the Kooikerhondje, may decide on getting one some day. I am going to look more into the English Springer and Vizsla.

My favorites are boxers, standard poodles, great danes, pretty much any mastiff-y dog, dogos, pitties, dobes, wirehair pointer, giant schnauzer, and aussies

I think an aussies is actually a little on the small side for my taste, and a little too hairy. So far boxer's been a great fit ;) I LOVE LOVE LOVE poodles and plan on getting one soon. I would love to have a dane and have a breeeder picked out should that ever happen, but they're big (which is also why I like them), and upkeep is expensive. Although I love mastiffs and dogos, I doubt I'd ever own one. Maybe a dobe, but I don't know really...actually never considered owning one until just now xD I don't know a ton about giant schnauzers, but I know they're gorgeous lol. I don't think I'd ever have a wirehaired pointer, based on the temperament of the shorthair pointers I've seen (I've only ever met one wirehair...he was cute, funny looking, but a little snotty).

Some do and some don't but my 'favorites' tend to change as I learn more about them. I tend to gravitate towards the dogs that I think fit me the best like papillons, border collies, aussies, etc. All of those are what I call 'acquired tastes' in that none of them are breeds I thought I loved until I started researching and getting hands on experience with them. I tend to favor herding breeds over everything else, I'm really not a fan of most other groups although there are a couple sporting breeds I do like (Tollers and Kooikers). I really also like mastiffs but they're not a good fit for me at this point in time at the least. I hope that changes in the future. But other than herders and paps I really don't have any other true 'loves'. At this point in time, papillons are my absolute favorite breed and are without a doubt the best fit for me. They're small and great for my tiny apartment but they have enough energy and drive to go on long hikes with me and also to participate in dog sports.

The only ones I really drool over that aren't a good fit for me are Ibizan hounds. I tend to be transferring my sight hound love to whippets, which I think are a much better fit for me.

Jrts still rock my world!

to the OP: I would go meet some more sport bred (vs just conformation bred) whippets. They should be bouncy happy dogs. Not shy reserved nervous dogs. The do tend to be not into strangers.. well except Bounce lol. With their people they should be athletic outgiong dogs.

I never though I would own a whippet cause I had met all sorts of shaky, shut down and neurotic whippets. Now that I have met more good ones I can say I like the whippet personality.

I love: Whippets,Danes,all mastiffs,Doxies, Standard Poodles,Corgies,Huskys,Wolfhounds,Salukies,Saint Bernards,Berners, GSD,Rotts,Dobes, Boxers Scottys and Shiba Inus.

Whippets, too fragile.Danes,Mastiffs,Saints,Berners and wolfhounds, too expensive and too short a life:(. Rotts and Boxers, the too common tumor/cancer problems, plus temperament because of BYBs. Doxies have too many expensive backproblems. Huskys , don't need an escape artist, plus Texas isn't actually good for northern breeds. Shiba inu's, too aloof. Poodles, grooming.

So the only good fits would be GSD,Dobes,Scottys and corgis.

I love Bouviers, Westies, Scotties, pretty much any type of terrier, GSD, Dobe's, Irish wolfhounds, Great Dane's, Whippets, S Poodle, PitBull My list changes as I get to know diffrent breeds.

The Bouvier and Westies suit me perfectly. My next dog is most likely going to be a Bouv. I believe the S Poodle would fit in perfectly as well. I cant stand shedding so anything that does alot of shedding is out. BOO! I also tend to lean more towards the longer haired dogs that have lots of energy and go. One dog that I can say forsure that would not match up with me would be the lab.

well my list of faves consists of:

cresties, this breed seems to work well for me, good energy level, great personality for me, still "froo froo" enough i can also play dress up and they actually LIKE it...

chihuahua: as much as i love my wowies, i dont think ill have another. after vixie and dodger as cresties have taken over "top small dog spot"

standard poodle: LOVE them...not sure i could keep up with the grooming though.

great dane: Absolutly love them, infact possibly my fave breed, and while the short lifespan makes me sad, i think in terms of energy of the larger breeds a dane is better suited to me.

english mastif: i think, in the end, the drool would drive me nuts, and yes, danes also drool, but nothing beats a good english lol.

staffy bull: the only reason ill never own a staffy is the high risk of dog agression

fila:
cane corso:
boerboel:
pressa
im still in the "learning" stages of these breeds and honestly not yet sure how they would fit

doberman: this is a breed still on my "considering" list, however energy levels May be a little higher than i can keep up with currently.

What about them isn't a good fit for you? This strikes me as odd, because the reason we decided to hold off on a beezer for now is that they are so active and into everything. Honestly the first thing I thought when I met a bunch at a breeder's house was, "Wow! These are like giant paps!" Right down to the vertical springing into the air...only they do it 6-8 feet into the air. :rofl1:

Collies of course. They really work with me! I plan to have them forever! LOL They can be great dogs to lay on the couch and watch TV with.. but soon as you go outside, they are up for anything!... In the past I have done herding, obedience, agility and flyball with them... as well as Conf.

Other breeds I really like.. and would like (one of) some day..... Boxers are at the top of my list!! I love them. I've been around several of them, and as a kid we had a couple boxers.

Dobermans are another I would consider. A friend of mine has the best Doberman ever!! Love that dog.. I have tried several times to get them to let me have him LOL

I've seen some Aussies I really like. Not sure if I'd ever get one, but I do like them... so it's possible.

Gordon Setters... another breed I really like! I've been around several, and some day I wouldn't mind having one!...

I used to take care of 4 Brittany's for a guy when his family would go on vacation. Really like those dogs... doubt ever own one.. but I do like them!..

And one other breed that I've only really been around a couple of them.. but I like them a lot.. and wouldn't mind finding out more about them... is the Bull Mastiff.

Yep chihuahuas are perfect for me lounging around the house or going for a nice walk. There just go with the flow dogs.

For breeds I really like, I love all the sight hounds. Most of them would be excellent fits for me, except possibly the ibizans and pharaohs, simply because of their brain melting barks. It's something I could live with, but would rather avoid if possible.

Collies, the same thing as the beezers and pharaohs. Love them don't love the barking. I know it can be controlled with training, but it's still something I don't like working with. That's my main beef with Charlie, he barks too much.

Huskies, karelian bear dogs, catahoulas, etc. are so awesome. Some day when I'm healthier and we are land owners I may consider one. I'm just not healthy enough to keep up with one right now. When we buy a place I do want to adopt a senior siberian husky. Just some nice, slightly slowed down oldster who needs a place to spend the last couple years of his life. So many old dogs don't get a chance who need it.

I love a lot of the LGDs. Tibetan mastiffs, filas, akitas (okay, they kind of are LGDs..). Right now I have too many anxiety problems to have one in my life. Some day when that stuff is better and I'm a different person, I hope to be the kind of person who can handle one.

Lol I do love them and in a lot of ways they are like giant paps. HUGE senses of humor and lots of energy. I just love them so much, not to mention they're stunning. *sigh* I still dream about one one day.

My main concern is prey drive and size difference around the papillons though honestly.

ETA: Curse you Romy, now I'm wanting one again and talking with my beezer friends! I've been living vicariously through them for years. :rofl1:

For the most part....yes.

In every way Bully breeds suit me (at least Amstaffs and APBTs) in just about everyway except the sensitivity to the cold. I like to be outside a lot in the winter time doing different stuff and single coated and short hair dogs with little fat aren't really set up for winter sports. Especially as they get olders, even with coats. Sal will play and have fun outside if their are other dogs invovled but if it is just me and him and its below 20 degrees.....forget about it. Athena was that way. My next door neighbors APBT is the same way.

Besides that....we are a perfect match :p

For the most part, yes. My actual favourites list consists of only dogs I could see myself living with temperament wise (Doberman, Toller, Dalmatian). There are other breeds that I really love as well though that I don't feel are a good fit for me (at the moment, anyway). They include the Leonberger, Papillon, Border Collie, Aussie, Belgian Shepherds, Kooikerhondje and a few more.

my Sonic dog hunts regularly and always has and yet when we had the mini dachshund she totally ruled him. the bigger danger is the bigger dog not understanding they are big & can hurt the little ones by accident.

forgot on topic, i like anydog that can do it's job (what the breed was created for) and any dog that will put the meat on the table (regardless of breed). so yes my breeds suit me just fine.

Hmmm, my favorite breed, the American Pit Bull Terrier, is definitely what I always wanted, but are they perfect for me? I would say no.

I love the velcro, brave, tough as nails type of dog. The APBT has many of the characteristics that I tend to like in a dog, but then they have a few that I can live without. Every breed, to me really, have traits that I don't favor, some traits more than others. With the APBT it is the DA, something that I can live with sure, but not for my whole life. Even though Kai is not DA( yet?), I still am on high alert when it comes with him interacting with dogs just so I could spot any signs of beginning DA. It can be a real pain just worrying about it so my next breed will definitely be one on the low-DA scale.

Now, I'm not saying that I will never own another DA breed, I know I will.

The Vizsla fits near the perfect dog for me though.
