How on earth would a Thai Ridgeback, or for that matter, a mix end up in a shelter in the middle of TX? There are only a few found throughout North America and Europe. I mean come on people, we can't be that stupid to think a dog in a run down shelter in the middle of nowhere is gonna be one of the rarest breeds in the world. I would think it more likely in NY or LA. Still if someone has a dog they probably had to pay $$$$$$$$ for, why just dump it for nothing in a shelter? Strangely they have no picture of this dog:confused:. I think they just got a Ridgeback or a Ridgeback X and decided if they called it this exotic name it would go faster.
(I have personal experiance with these people. They would look at a black/yellow/brown dog and call it a lab:rolleyes:. The place is a dump, they yell at people and animals , and they are never open when their sign says they are. I mean your sign says you open at 8 and you get there at 11:yikes:. It took me three months just to be able to go in there and talk to them about volunteering. All the time I worked there they had: small brown mixes, Lab X, GSD X, all kinds of hounds, Bassett X, doodles,Chows,Chi's, pugs, etc.)Adopt a Thai Ridgeback: BUSTER: Petfinder

Anything to get the dog a home. Which is whay every black dog is listed as a Lab mix. Right after the movie "Because of Winn Dixe" came out, a local rescue group had the sweetest looking shaggy dog listed as a Podengo. The sad thing is, even tho their hearts are in the right place, these groups aren't doing the dogs (or adopters) any favors when the dogs don't have the temperment typical of the breed they're listed as.

Are they really that rare? I had no idea! There are two at my dog park! Crazy!

I live in a very yuppy, dog friendly area though, so if they were going to be anywhere, I suppose it would be here.

I can't see a pic. I have met some thai ridgebacks as there is a breeder who shows the same conformation and racing venue as the whippets. They are very rare.

I like them. They are neat dogs. They are very naked though.

This is a female (really like her!)

Male (not as big a fan of him personality wise.. but still a nice dog)

I can't see the picture, but I do like how in the description it says "needs plenty of rum to run".

Obviously the dog's name should be Smuggler.

That's why I thought they just got a ridgeback and wanted to give it a fancy name to get someone to adopt it. The first place I had ever heard of them was on Dogs 101.

i think so...
either that or there realy clueless...

the shelter i used to work for would lable their dogs all sorts fo crazy breeds they looked nothing like.

Apbt's were "american bulldog mixes" because people dont want apbts
mixes were often purbreds and dogs they couldnt figure out became rare breeds that they might have had a little resembalance to...
(ie we had a long haired big white dog who was pretty badly matted...they labled him as a komondor!, i dont think theres a single komondor int he entirety of connecticut.
we also got a little chihuahua with alopecia in, he ended up being labled as a "toy xolo" because "people prefer RARE breeds")
