A pregnant lab bitch was found outside our house this morning. About an hour ago she gave birth to 2 pups. This bitch is not in great condition and one of the pups is making a lot of noise while the other isn't making any noise at all. We dont know wether the pups will live.

What can I do if the bitch isn't feeding them or isn't producing milk?

and lots of other questions I can't remember now.

We are getting a good food for her tomorrow what should we be looking for?

Get to a pet store and get a puppy nurser bottle and some Esbilac. They will go down hill quickly without nutrition. Keep them warm, too, especially after they eat so they can digest. They cannot maintain their own body heat at this age.

Kudos to you for helping momma dog + puppies!

The most important thing (besides making sure all are nursing) right now is keeping them warm like colliewog said if you have a scale, or able to get one tomorrow, monitor their weight.

Also recommend giving mom calcium (during and after whelp). Yogurt, cottage cheese, goats milk, etc. etc. all good to supplement her with.

Is she licking them well to poop ?
As far as I know now she has settled down a bit she has been doing everything right. However I don't want to disturb her considering I am still a stranger.

There is not alot I can do right now but tomorrow we are going shopping to get everything she and the pups need.

It's important that she is cleaning them because they will become septic if they do not defecate. It woudn't hurt to gently wipe their bottoms with a warm washcloth or cotton ball (to simulate a licking dog) to stimulate them to go. They will go right away if they need to and then you can be sure it's been done. ;) You don't know if she's done this before and lots of new moms don't know what to do right off the bat and you could lose someone.

I just wanted to be sure there was some sense of urgency in the comment that Grammy made. :) It's as important as food and warmth!

And I forgot to say ... bless you for taking this dog in to your home in her time of need!!!!

We couldn't have left her out side. There is ice everywhere. The house is feeling a bit crowded with 5 dogs and 4 pups but everyone is settling down.

Is it normal for puppies to squeal a lot?

because unless they are taking it in turns there is usually one puppy being noisy (of course as soon as I typed this there was instant silence lol)
