How to raise a puppy book

Hey there, looking for a good positive based 'how to raise a puppy' book. I was looking into the Monks of New Skete but aren't sure what kind of methods they use so I'll have to look into that but what some other good books that you guys would recommend on this topic?

You want to avoid the Monks of New Skete. I like Ian Dunbar's two books on puppies.. they were offered as free down loads a while back...

The training textbook sections, read them all. That was my primary source of info for raising Finnegan. Lots of great information!

Theres also a lot of free information online which you can probably consider reading in addition to those books.

I definately agree with Ian Dunbar's puppy books. I was fortunate enough to go to his seminar a few weeks ago, and even though I know a lot about raising puppies, I still learned a LOT. I will definately read his books again when I do get my own puppy.

The videos on Dog Star Daily are also really helpful.

Avoid anything by Dr Bruce Foogle. The man is a idiot

Okay so I downloaded before and after you get a puppy by Ian Dunbar. Thanks for the suggestions.

Don't worry, I won't be limiting myself to just these books.

The monks have some very outdated and frankly dangerous advice. Over all its a waste of money. The good parts of that book can be found in other books with out the silly and dangerous advice.

Agreed, avoid the Monks for the reasons already stated. Another good book is Pat Miller's, The Power of Positive Dog Training, which applies to dogs of all ages including puppies.

Yes , Rutherford and Neil ~~ 2 vets . I had many books and this was my favorite . I gave a copy to each new prospective owner so they could follow each weeks growth .

Howell Book House offer the "Health Pet Series", books written by experts in a specific breed. But they have several sections written by others, with the training section written by Dr Dunbar. Nice cheap book to add to a collection if you have a breed they have a book for.

The first training book I ever bought (as a kid in the 70s) was the Monks of New Skete ... I read it and then put it on a shelf and never touched it again. Even at 8 yrs old, I knew that wouldn't work for my dogs!!!

Thanks for the explanation on the Monks, and I'll keep all the other books suggested in mind.
