having a pit bull around. My life just doesnt seem as complete without a terror. I wish we could just settle somewhere and not have to worry about renting. Jeremy said once we are no longer renting I can have one (he had some issues with them growing up) I have spent all day staring at pit bull pictures videos and everything and it just makes me miss the big headed clowns even more. I should get to see dads this weekend though.

That's good you get to see the pups this weekend...it sucks renting and not being able to have the dogs you want. :(

I had to turn down my Double pup because I wasn't on the 5 acres I thought I was going to be by this time.

Yes it does, that sucks majorly id love a double pup but I have to reserve spots for the fila and pit bull.

I havent talked to dad yet so I dont know for sure but Jeremy wants to try and make it over there.

Plus Bev got the APBT loveing gene, sure she loves Walker and sure she loves dogs but you should see this little girls face light up when I show her bully pics. She will sit here all day entranced in them.

Crazy bully pup ears!

Frog legs anyone?

I know what you mean about loving them. I can't think of one thing I don't love!

I know we were talking about Lil bit the other night, here is another of my favorite APBT's I'm sure you'd like as well!

Black Caesar's Hemi(RIP) -

Black Caesar's Hemi(RIP) -

Well he's lean lol

I know how you guys feel.

I'd like a presa but it is a dog designed for estate guarding and catching things but I don't live on an estate and I have nothing that needs catching here :(

Some day, eh?

He's conditioned Xandra. I can assure you he was quite a healthy dog.

I obviously don't know anything about pit bulls and was shocked when I thought the dog looked so lean - ribs showing. So are the ones people usually see heavier than they should be? I've always 'imagined' them as large, muscular animals.

Uh oh.

Someone will have a much better, more thorough explanation for this but the dog is healthy- he is lacking in fat which my vet tells me is bad if they get sick as they have no reserves... however a dog that isn't getting enough food/ is starving will lose muscle mass (atrophy) and as you can see he is plump with muscle... just no body fat.

A lot of pit bulls are conditioned to look this way. If he was down right skinny he would have NO muscle mass. When I joined my first PB forum I thought they were skinny as well, until someone explained. I will have to find it and cross post.

There used to be a really good thread about this on here. It was a LONG read though lol.

The basic jist is they're conditioned like that. If you look the dog is lean but also has a lot of muscle mass. Also a lot of the pits you see nowadays are overdone as in too fat. The Am bullies come to mind (short and low pits)

They're not always kept like that, though, right? I thought I remembered that from the other thread -- that's what they look like when conditioned for a specific event.

So, on the subject of lean dogs, there's a big article on the NYTimes site right now about all of the health benefits of decreasing calories. Animals have been shown to live much longer if their food is limited and they are kept lean. Exercising is also beneficial, of course, but food reduction alone (as opposed to decreasing food less and increasing exercise such that the actual caloric "intake" is the same as the significantly reduced calorie program) is actually the best in terms of increasing longevity and slowing intrinsic aging. The article was about a study being done with humans (reducing caloric intake of average weight and slightly overweight adults by 25%) and was based on studies done on animals. I thought it was very interesting.
