Juno's starting to shed quite a bit, so my friend gave me a bristle brush and a pin brush and... they do nothing... except make me feel totally incompetent at brushing dogs. They seem to pick up a couple hairs but they still leave behind a LOT.

Would something like the Zoom Groom be more effective at actually picking up the hairs?

Id try a rubber brush, somthing like this.
Four Paws Rubber Curry Brush For Dogs
Ah, how fitting that there's a boxer on the packaging. :p

I'll have to pick one up next time I'm at the pet store. My brain doesn't really understand WHY rubber would work much better, lol, but those brushes seem to get pretty good reviews so I guess we'll give it a shot!

If you have a feed and livestock store, get a horse rubber curry, and also i use a shedding block...takes the dead hair RIGHT OUT.

the only other thing i would recommend is a stiff bristle body brush (i buy horse ones, they are cheaper)

Also boxers really should only shed twice a year (the big sheds) try some fish oil or olive oil, should help get the coat back into shape

I would imagine that horse grooming tools work great on short-haired dogs like boxers. Use a rubber curry comb to massage all the dead hair to the surface (and Juno gets a massage!), then brush it all away with a bristle brush.

best in my opinion is the Zoom Groom.
but use this outside because hair does not really stick to the brush, so it can be messy

Trust me those rubber brushs work great. I use them at work on all short haired dogs (pitties, hounds, pugs, mastiffs and even boxers.) they work awsome.

I <3 the Zoom Groom for any length of hair. You should have seen what it did with Virgo's coat though- WOW.

I always used shedding blades on shorthaired dogs. You have to be careful your not too rough though.
Anything rubber will work great, it grips and takes the dead hair with it as it goes over the coat.

Would it be possible that she's just losing some of her puppy coat? Maybe 5.5 months is too young for that... but it's only recently that she's been shedding. It's not really a huge amount either... just enough that I notice it and want it gone. :p

Thanks guys, I'll have to scope out the rubber brushes next time I'm at the pet store :)

So I got a rubber curry brush and that thing is amazing haha. Juno ended up looking almost white with all the fur it pulled from her neck. =P There was a loooot of fur and I could have kept combing to get even more.. so yeah, it definitely works!

Another vote for Zoom Groom. I take Capone outside and actually use two at a time. (he tends to lean into it, he likes it so much.... using the two makes it faster and helps with balance.)

I would absolutely NOT use this indoors, unless you just really like to vaccuum.
