Oh dear!! I'm so tired of some vets telling to they clients that they dog MUST have to be breed.

They are telling people that the dog "HAVE to be breed or else...." (add one of the following)

"is goin to get sick"

"is goin to die of sadness"

"is goin to catch cancer"

"you have to be breed it in they 3rd heat. is for they good healt"

And many more, is so sad that in this times vets are recomending this things to they clients.
.
I have heard many people saying

"the vet told me to breed my pet, he knows everything!, I have to breed it even if I don't want to, but is for my pet sake"

Sigh...

Ive heard of vets telling people that.

its an easy way to make money. mom will probably need extra vet care, xrays etc..
plus its a bunch of puppies that need shots, checkups, etc..

Strange.

I know that when I was showing, the vet was ALWAYS trying to get me to spay my girl. That was several years ago, but I doubt that anything has changed.

wow, is that what the vets say in Honduras?
Sadly, yes and is most of them.

wow, I've NEVER heard of a vet around here telling somebody that. And if they did... I'd stay far, far away!
I would run if it the vets that say that wheren't like the mayority :/

When I had my cat, a vet told me that she had to have at least 3 litters.

I was talking yesterday with my sisters about the reasons of why they say that, and the one you mention is a reason, the other was misinformation.

This is new to me !! My vet did tell me that if the right Golden was looking for a stud , she would recommend Bubba .

I remenber that when we had Oso (GSD/ malinois/ husky) and Tigre (boxer)

The vets told us that they where nice looking dogs and asked if we wanted to add they names to a "dog seeks for girlfriend list"

Strange.

A show dog? odd!

There's only one vet here that I know that is pro spaying, she writes for a pet section in the newspaper about the benefits of spaying and offeres them for a low price, sadly many people (from what the others vets tell them that is bad) they don't belive in spaying, for them if you talk about spaying is supreme cruelty, or they start to cry almost like if it was about cutting a leg from the animal.

Thankfully they are some that belive in spaying thanks to her a few but something is better than nothing.

Well, I think they did that for two reasons:

1) alot of people think they have a "show" dog because their dog is AKC registered. My neighbor though that her dog's AKC certificate meant that she was a champion, and this dog was purchased out of a petstore window.

2) veternarians have no idea what a show dog is supposed to look like. For the most part. They would have no idea that my bitch was an excellent example, though maybe a bit long in the back and a tad light on coat.

*shrugs*

I wasn't offended. They're just doing what they think is right.

Good reasons on pedigree ones.

However the vets are telling the people on "must have to breed" no matter if is a mutt or purebreed, papered or not, they don't care.

If is a mutt they say "I can seek for a dog/cat similiar to yours so you can breed it"

When I was showing Smudge I got a lecture every vet visit that he was overdue to be neutered. Kept telling them we were doing confo and they needed to buzz off, they kept trying to push it.

Any wonder I try to avoid the vet unless we need it these days.

Wow O-o well spaying means money for them.
I just hope he/she didn't told you that he was "goin to die" if you didn't do that.

I know not all vets thinks on money but they are some that do, is sad.

have only had one vet really urge me to nueter, and that was because he had a retained testicle, which is #1 genetic and #2 will cause a tumer over time. He was neuterd soon. Otherwise, no vet has pushed me to either neuter or not neuter. And none have ever said you must breed!

Lots of people here (generally older generation) believe you should let a cat/dog have one litter.

It's just an old fashioned view and very hard to tell people otherwise.

Yea, a lot of folks are set in their ways and all the talk in the world isn't going to change their minds. Thats why we are all individuals and have our own opions, huh? Makes us unique!
