Blue Tick Hounds Anyone?

I don't own a bluetick coonhound, but I've had much experience with them at rescue. They tend to be extremely human friendly, and dog friendly. They slobber, they tend to bay a lot(cause they gotta let the world know how they feel!) and they are not the easiest dogs in the world to train, although individual dogs are easier to train than others. Bob, a bluetick coonhound at FOHA, knows sit and give paw, and I think he knows lay down as well. He's very cuddly and sweet, and loves water! Blueticks and coonhounds in general tend to love water! Young hounds (under 3) tend to be high energy and need to run! Coonhounds are also very, very silly.

My experience with them has been that they're cute and smooshy and not terribly interested in following commands much. Pretty laid back dogs once they hit adulthood but fairly energetic as pups.
Again, this all depends on the lines behind the dog. If they are hunting/working lines, expect more energy/drive.

Thank you guys for giving me a little bit of personal experiences with meeting coonhounds in general.
Also, they tend to get along with other dogs right?
I have hounds already but they are of the smaller kind (beagles, bassets) Since they are so much smaller than the coonhounds I was wondering on how they act around other dogs that are smaller.

A Blue Tick Coon isn't a Foxhound.
And as far as temperament, they're as everyone above stated. Goofy, loveable, slobbery, a bit hard-headed, but typically get along great with other dogs and people. They have the personality of a beagle, which is generally out-going, and outspoken.
I love them. Down here we're full of blue tick hounds and red tick hounds. Red ticks are my fav. but you don't see them quite as often.

I have a Walker, not a Bluetick, but i believe the personalities are quite similar, since they both started out as variants on the English. I love mine very much. He is a wonderful family dog in every way (other than being loud, lol). He isn't even a nuisance howler.
The rumor that the coonhounds are stupid is totally false. Mine is an excellent problem solver actually. He is just not an obedience prospect because he sees no point in it. He is loving and loyal. He is gentle with all things belonging to our household, up to and including Eli's rabbit and Will's guinea pig. He is very clear on the difference between his little girl's pet rabbit, and that delicious looking rabbit on the run out doors.
What I am most impressed with is his amazing on/off ability. When there is nothing to do, he just zonks out. But he is always ready for a game or adventure when wanted. And he is a clown, like most of his kind.
He is an unneutered male, three years old, and is neither submissive nor aggressive. He can get along with almost any other dog. He is even pretty good at defusing situations between other dogs.

What everyone else has said is absolutely true. They are not the easiest dogs to train... very hardheaded and would rather do what they want to do lol.
Belle is the sweetest girl. She loves ALL people... especially children. She gets along with other dogs..even small dogs. loveable doesn't even begin to describe her. Very goofy. slobbery... to a degree. mostly only when there is food present though.
Generally she is just totally laid back. she doesn't get into things, loves to chase critters, loves to bay at anything and everything and will obsess for DAYS over a critter that she saw ONE time. She is Hannahs best bud and caretaker. she will take a lot of abuse and pestering and just sit there wagging her tail (of course she does have a limit when it comes to her "little brother" beezer... he is a super pest lol) She's lazy, loooooves to sleep but will do whatever she can to avoid sleeping on the floor like a DOG lol.

My neighbor, has 9 walkers and one litter on the ground. VERY sweet dogs. Energetic when people approach, but somewhat laid back from what I can see. Very loving dogs to humans and other canines. First time I've met a large hound and they are sweeties. Yes, they bay and they bark. Pretty vocal when they spot something or someone. Oh and they howl too. lol.

a lot of half@$$ed houndsmen run & breed ill dogs w/ the misconception that it makes them gritty on bear & lion. for that matter an unpleasantly ignorant minority can't tell the difference between the damage done by dogs fighting & a bad bear or cat.
in my own personal experience treeing walkers produce more ill dogs than any other hound breed, but then there are about 2-4X treeing walkers than all other treehounds combined. i don't have enough experience w/ running walkers to say if they're ill or not. alot of dogs that aren't fight pickers get bad reps for being fight finishers (houlas & plotts come right to mind).
bluetick coonhounds have a rep for being cold nosed & gritty. for people that don't hunt that cold nose means high intelligence so they can get bored easily & become destructive if not given adequate exercise & play. the gritty means a high pain tolerance and stubborn streak.
Ivy good looking boy. he's got a nice blocky head like an english foxhound. in fact his whole build looks more like an english foxhound with the broader chest and more bone. also it is not unheard of for bear doggers to put a touch of bull in their hounds which tends to give that substantial look even down to 1/16. it also helps make them more laid back when not running. i just love blocky dogs.
