Sundays are such good days..

I have always had a soft spot in my heart for animals, but I especially love dogs. I've always thrown a few bucks to a few different places to help with unwanted pets and helped where and when I could. Due to working full time, going to school and dealing with daily life I never had the chance to get involved with foster/rescue.

We have recently started helping one of the local rescues and adoption days are typically held on Sundays. Sunday just used to be another day -- now it's a day I can't wait for. I get to spend 4-5 hours loving on these babies and help with finding them a good home. I guess to simply put it I never realized how rewarding helping out with rescue would be.

The first time I helped out I adopted out a boy (and my husband said I was gloating for the rest of the day) who had lived his entire life (7 years) in a wire crate. He had never walked on pavement, grass, etc. He had scars from his wire crate that he got from keeping his nose and feet in between the bars trying to get out. A couple took him home to see how things would work out and they ended up keeping him. They dropped by to visit today and see the new dogs. He is now living the spoiled life he deseved and loving every minute of it.

Not really sure why I typed this out -- was just sitting here holding the new foster we brought home and thinking about how sweet she is and trying to understand out how someone can just take a their dog who has loved them uncoditionally to the shelter and say, "I don't want her anymore" and walk away with a second thought.

Sounds wonderful!!! I'm glad you're enjoying it. I'd love to do something like that, too. One disadvantage of living in a place with a small population!

You'll have to post pics of the dogs you got adopted out!

It's so nice of you to do fostering. I never understood people, especially where I live now which is kind of in the country. Dogs are dropped off by owners who don't want them hoping someone will take them in. Don't they realize they could be hit by a car, attacked by coyotes, etc.

It's so nice of you to open your heart and home... it's very rewarding and the dogs thank you, I'm sure.

aha. Fostering. As everyone will tell you....don't get too attached.

Most anyone would agree, I am one of the craziest people that exist. I recently took in those 2 large stray/abandoned dogs, the required 30 days is over and I am ready to look for homes for them.
One of my GSDs is promised to a breeder in SC, and now two other GSDs are for sale.

Crazy me...I'm planning to go to an overcrowded shelter tomorrow and bring home a pregnant Labrador. The bitch needs someone with whelping and puppy placement experience.

I already know...it is a huge responsibility, and a burden of sorts on myself. I already sat and wrote out the pros vs cons. I thought for sure that I would talk myself out of it, but amazingly the pros won.

I'm so sad...

We had to take our foster back (this is the 2nd foster we've had to take back) as she was being aggressive and attacking our females. I know our dogs take priority over a foster dog, but I feel like I've let so many people (and dogs) down. I've always wanted to foster and it's hard for me to accept that I might not ever be able to do that.

And now I understand?

The couple that adopted Marley (who is now Harley) emailed a few pics to the rescue.

After seeing the pictures I think I might need to go re-claim Marley as he is being abused.

Aww, what a cute picture! And what a lucky boy! So glad when I see dogs I have rescued in new, loving homes!

Everyone already knows I am a crazy cat lady lol, and I enjoy rescuing kittens and cats very much! I tried to save a 3 legged cat recently, but he had already been sent to the SPCA. I just hope a rescue gets him out of there! I know I can't save them all, but I can sure try!

People always say to me they don't know how I do it, like I'm giving up so much. I just think its such a rewarding experience, they give you even more than you try and give them, and when they get a forever home it is the greatest feeling! Seeing them happy! In a perfect (for them) family!

I think part of the reason I find it so rewarding is because I know that they have finally found a home with a family who will provide them with unconditional love until the day they die.

I did have one sad experience . I fostered a Golden through Heartworm treatment for many weeks and we found a wonderful home for her . They loved her and she loved them . Out of nowhere she died 3 months later from a heart attack . It was too sad !
