So stupid. It shouldn't be illegal in the first place, and of course they profiled him. It's just so wrong.

All law enforcement does is give people fines for minor traffic offenses that do no one any harm. Working to prevent murders and rapes doesn't generate any revenue though. *barf*

Why aren't they going after all the athletes? I'd say come down alot harder on the guys that have been taking steroids (which do alot of damage to the body) and have been lying for years about it. Don't see them getting any punishment--or I've missed it.

You know what the punishment should be for an athlete caught smoking pot? Force them to compete while completely stoned out of their mind. Everyone knows pot isn't a 'performance enhancer', so why should it matter? The only way phelps could have used pot to help is times was if there was a bag of funyons on the other side of the pool.

I personally think its ridiculous they are making such a big deal about it. If he would have gotten a DUI they would have made LESS of a deal of that, then the whole pot issue.

It's ridiculous and I blame the media. They can't just report the facts anymore - gotta sensationalize, put their spin on it and flog the non-issue to death. Too bad Phelps can't turn around and sue them for harassment and mental anguish...

I don't think that's what they are claiming.

But pot is a banned substance by the "olympic committee" ONLY during the olympics. Any other time they don't care. did that make any sense? lol

BUT... there was a canadian snowboarder who had his medal taken away one year because he tested positive for pot and they claimed it was performance enhancing LOL. Isn't that a denis leary joke? Anyway he eventually got his medal back.

It IS stupid......

but he is a role model, looked up to by millions of kids. if it got around that he smoked pot and got away with it, what would that say to our nation's kids?

Pot is a very minor drug, and I don't look down on anyone who smokes it. I don't look down on Michael Phelps for smoking it. I've smoked it and liked it. But I've also seen the harmful effects of it. It can really mess up your memory, and in teenagers and stuff whose brains are still developing, it can have even worse effects I think.

I just would hate for kids to see that their hero, Michael Phelps, smoked pot and had no consequences from it. There are consequences. Maybe no worse than a night of hard drinking, that's for sure, but that shouldn't be taken lightly either IMO.

So I'm glad that he got in trouble. It's not like it's gonna be the end of his career or his life. He's not going to prison.

Probably the only thing that's going to come of his being made an example of is maybe, just maybe, if we're lucky, when these kids are old enough to vote we'll see some sanity come to the issue and it will no longer be illegal.

And no, for the record, I don't smoke and have never been a pot smoker. Toked twice in my life. And yes, I DID inhale.

It's insane and inane for pot to be illegal.

I'm having a hard time understanding your post. If the consequences should be no worse than a night of hard drinking?

I think pot should be legal.

But people shouldn't think that there are no health consequences, because there are. Just as there are with drinking alcohol, and eating lots of fat and sugar. lol.

Cigarettes and Alcohol kill more people in one year, then pot will kill in 100 years... Yes, I just made that up... but it's probably close to true... LOL

Seriously, the issue isn't if he smoked pot or not... Hell, Clinton admitted it and no one tried to arrest him.

As a parent I'd rather my kid look up to Michael Phelps and his bong, then 99% of the players in the NBA or NFL.

I mean there are people who father 9 kids with 9 different women, all out of wedlock and it's no big deal. Skip out on alimony or child support, no problem.... Bust a woman in the eye, no sweat!

But alas, enjoy a bong toke after just becoming the greatest Olympian of all time and now your a bad role model.... PUHLEASE!
