Oh, they all have such gorgeous faces. The boxer who lives next to me made me fall in love with the breed.

I just want to post and say that I am in *love* with Honey. She is the most beautiful Boxer I have ever seen - hands down. What an absolutely stunning dog.

Beautiful dogs!

What makes you determine whether or not you are going to crop your boxers ears or keep them natural?

If the dog is going to compete in the show ring, then it has to have the ears cropped, at least in the USA and Canada. If the dog is not competing, usually the ears will be left natural unless the owner insists otherwise. When they have their ears cropped, they just look more elegant and alert. My boxer has natural ears, but then I do not show him since he's white. Also, it takes a lot of effort to make sure the ears heal properly and stay straight up.

No, a boxer does NOT have to have ears cropped for the show ring. It's traditional to do so and some judges will put a cropped dog up over a natural one for whatever reason, but it's not a requirement.

Think it was 1997 when a well known handler or two started showing uncropped boxers and winning with them, which turned into a hullabaloo in the boxer world and there was some drama. Uncropped is fine in the AKC and CKC with boxers. Sometimes the traditional wins out when maybe it shouldn't, but it's totally above board to show your dog either way.

Yep, here's a little blurb about it:

If I remember correctly, the standard was revised in 2005 to include uncropped ears?

yes they can be shown with uncropped ears now. So cropping is no longer "required"...
It may not be required, but I have not seen any boxer with natural ears win any of the major competitions lately. Maybe I am wrong, but I cannot find any info.
I've heard that cropping dogs' ears can make them more anxious and aggressive at the same time which could be possible since this makes them more alert to every sound.

Ummm... what? o_O

If someone told you that terriers' butts smell worse because their tails stick up, would you believe that too?

I actually like a natural Boxer..... Nothing to do with my views on cropping ears, which I am not hardcore about either way.... I just like the look of a natural Boxer... Not that my opinion on that has anything to do with the issue.. LOL
