mabe its because im from the uk (ear cropping has been illegal for MANY MANY MANY years) i always thought cropped dobes in america looked WEIRD...

for me thought i think i have the biggest problem with the actual process of cropping, and probably why i dont have quite as much of a problem with docking.

i cant imagine the damage a happy boxer could do with a full tail lol. there sucj wiggly butts!

I don't want to dock or crop, so I don't own those breeds. Doesn't stop me from admiring them when others have them.

I met an uncropped, undocked Doberman one time. I thought it was a really poor example of a Black and Tan Coonhound.

I absolutely adore uncropped ears on Giant Schnauzers. They are so very nommable. It is a shame to cut that off! They do kind of look peculiar with long tails, though.

You can own a normally cropped breed and just NOT crop its ears ;). Its hard to find an undocked dobe/rott,etc since they are done so young. Unless you requested it from the breeder that they don't dock it.

The crop/dock on Dobes makes them look much, much lighter and agile on their feet, IMO. You have to get a GREAT vet to crop though, or you get a choppy mess. A huge part of a great crop is aftercare, airing every week and reposting if needed. Sizzle is AMAZING at ears, and it certainly helps that the breeder flies in a vet from Montana to do her puppies.

I know there's a Dobe breeder that, when he breeds to European lines, he leaves the ears natural and docks the tails. The dogs finish their AKC championships then get shipped to Europe to get their titles there.

And here's my old dog Chew. She had the kind of ears I can't really stand. Our next dog had rose ears, and I kept flipping them forward because I thought she had something wrong with her. :)

I really can't think of any breed that I think looks better with parts of it cut off. JMHO.

The doberman is the only dog I prefer cropped. I prefer a long tail, so I'll say everyone looks better with!
And that mini Schnauzer with a tail? Precious! I've never seen such a thing before.

Ta da! :D

I have the 2nd one labeled AmStaff crops, but I think it's just AmStaff ears.
Thanks!!! Thats what I was looking for! Yep, I like the show crop the best...

lol. Reggin has some huge rose ears compared to the second illustrations.

Neat visual, Reggin!

From that... I like the show crop, and the rose ear (fig 8). I'm slightly leaning towards the rose ear, but I appreciate a *good* crop on any cropped breed. :)

In general, I'm a fan of natural ears and tails. I especially love natural ears on Boxers! Although I can't help but admire the way Dobes look when they're cropped and docked... they just appear to be so much sleeker and elegant.

i think most bull & mastiff breeds look better w/ a short crop and most look better docked as well. all terriers look better docked & most smooth ones look good cropped. i think most sighthound breeds would look more attractive w/ a long crop except the IW would look good w/a short crop. the long crop would make them look kind of feral.
scent hounds & curs are the only types i think all look better natural.

I like shorter ears mostly, which is partly why I picked a dog with short ears to begin with. I don't much care if a dog is cropped or docked if it's done right, though I LOVE pitties with rose ears. Oh my goodness. They are irresistable. I love uncropped dobes, but then I am a hound person so that is probably why they appeal to me.
