Ok, I have been completely clueless about what I am going to name this baby if it is a GIRL. For a boy I have Gage Michael picked out. Its been bugging me that I dont care for any girl names I have come across yet. I've looked at plenty of websites to get ideas, and Ive just given up for a little bit now.

Tonight I was looking at a website called ivillage and found a name. The name is kinda common but not WAY popular like "Madison" is, and it is similar to Madison, but different. I thought it would be cute to have them both with names that start with M. The name....

Madilyn Mae

Now, the middle name is my moms middle name, but spelled differently (Mae/May). Madisons middle name is Rae, after my dad (Rae/Ray).

Do you think the two names are just TOO similar? I really like it, but I am afraid it just might be too alike. I want them both to be somewhat unique. I could always use a different middle name, I dont have to use "Mae".

Madison Rae

Madilyn Mae

Other names that I like are Alison, Taylor, Rachelle.......... and I am currently trying to add on to this list. lol.

I think they're too similar.

I do like Taylor and Rachel though.

Also on a side note, my sister and BIL were discussing boy names a couple months back and Gage was their consensus as well lol I think that's an awesome name.

I too think they are too similar--I can see all sorts of confusion happening as a result (not from you necessarily--but school, dr. records, etc.).
Also--would you want to have a name so similar to your sisters?

I really think they are too similar too. I hate to say this but I always think people who give their children rhyming/really similar names are odd, lol.
I really like Gage! Thats adorable. Some girl names from our list were Emma, Anna, Grace, Gracelyn, Eden, Ava, Aila, Aida, Kiara.... theres more. I cant remember. I love Madelyn but its so close to Madison.

Good luck w/ the names. When do you find out the sex?

Definitely too similar. You could call Maddie, and they would both come running, LOL

Alison is a VERY popular name right now.........I know THREE born this year just so you know ;)

Taylor and Rachel are cute names though. Keep in mind that it's a pretty cool trend to name kids LAST names too, like McKenzie, Cooper, Brady, etc so maybe you could work with that too? :)

Good luck, picking a name is not easy!

Oh, I just wanted to add that the rhyming middle names don't bother me, though, if you picked a different first name. If I have a boy and a girl, they will be Damien Gage and Arianne Page

Yeah madison and madilyn are too close. when they are older you are going to yell out MADISON and you are going to get an answer from both and it's going to frustrate you lol.

I like Taylor and Rachel. Taylor is a name I have always LOVED for a girl. Rachel was actually what my mom had picked out for me at first. so I like them both. but if I had to choose... Taylor

My kiddos have A TON of Maddie's in their class LOL. So it'll be common enough! not sure if that's what you want tho. You know the most common name is MACKENZIE both boys and girls LOL.

I am only going to give my opinion b/c you asked, b/c really the only thing that matters is that you and dad love the name. I tend to agree with everyone else that the first names are just to similiar. It might be different if you plan to call the 2nd one by the middle name, but in school and at Dr's offices you will still have trouble probably with records being mixed up. I LOVE the name Madilyn as well as Marilyn but both names have already been taken by close friends so we decided against them.

Taylor was one of our top picks as well and I think we decided to save it in case we have a boy. We ended up picking a name that isn't unheard of but isn't as common for girls either. Devin.

I looked online as well but ultimately what helped me was getting some books and I had one that I LOVED. It was "The Baby Name Wizard". It had so many different things packed into one including the popularity of the name and when, a list of girl and boy names, then lists by categories. Within the girl/boy list each name had the popularity, style, nicknames, variants, sisters and brother names that worked with them then a little info behind the name. You wouldn't believe how much the brother sister names helped too just b/c when we found one name we really liked, we would often times find a brother sister name we also liked and send us on to another path.

Good luck picking out a name. One night me, my husband and my stepdaughter all sat down with a book and looked through all the names and had so much fun coming up with different variations and ideas. Ultimately hubby and I picked the first name and my SD picked out the middle name.

I agree, while the name is pretty, I think the two names are too similar.
But...I'm not the one to really ask about girl names. I can NEVER come up with girl names. That's why my son got to name Ella.:D
I pick either odd names, or old fashioned names, like: Mage, Iris, Pearl, Charlotte, Emma, and Mary.
And I cannot even think of any others right now. I could name boys all day, but I can NEVER come up with girl names.

I have the opposite problem. There are plenty of girl names I like but I have a harder time with boy names. I think it's because I SO want a girl. I'm probably having a boy :D

I'm the same way Becca. I have a looong list of boy names and no girl names. I had one girl name I liked and that meant something to me that I had picked out when I was eleven....and my mom used it for my little sister. Oh well, Josie suits her well. ;)

If I ever have kids, they better be boys!

I think they're too similar.

And I just have to chime in here and say - name your baby something that's NOT popular. It sucks to be in a class with three or more "Rachels" or "Brittanys" and the confusion in telling them apart if they all go by the same nickname or their full name. Besides..... any child you have will be special.. why not have a special name? :D

I can tell you when we thought Zac was going to be a girl, his name was going to be Sydney :) Sydney Patrice in fact, Patrice after my mother. We had NO boy names picked because not one but several ultrasounds showed a GIRL  LOL, glad they have improved since then.

You could always go with "Karsyn" for a girl. ;)

If I ever have a girl, her name will be "Amy" after my best friend (the middle name will be my middle name). And I love the name. It's short & sweet.

I also like Brianna (pronounded "ah-na" instead of "an-na". Kirsten. Kalee. Cassi.

Or you could just name her "Staci" after me. :D

What about Addison? It goes well with Madison, but isn't as popular as Allison.

I had a friend who had twins and she named them Allison and Addison.
