I really wasnt a fan of the idea, but Brandon insisted that we MUST get her ears done. All of his sisters got theirs done when they were newborns. Its coming up on Madisons first b-day, so I decided to let my fiance get her ears done.

First we went to clairs, BAD IDEA. I was looking at the prices of the jewelry. The pretty ones were 35 bucks. The 3 ugly ones were 16. So we went to walmart. They had the SAME jewelry for 10 bucks cheaper!!! Clairs is such a rip off.

Walmart had cute minnie mouse earings that I almost picked. We ended up getting the pink sparkly stones instead. And they were only 10 bucks!!!!

Out fishing.

Watching her daddy fish.

My mom had my ears pierced when I was 6 months old.... I couldnt thank her enough for it. I didnt have to go through the pain later and was always able to wear earrings when I was young.

I have tried other piercings since and I always have a problem with them getting infected... I will always be grateful for that first set.

They look beautiful by the way.

Thanks. I know a lot of people dont like to get them done so early, but I'm glad I did. Its nice to get them done and out of the way early. She doesnt touch them, so I think they are going to heal great and right on time.

Being a piercing fan I can't help but cringe a bit.. you didn't use a gun did you? :( Guns are so bad for piercings, since they can't properly clean them.. they come in contact with the blood/bodily fluids and they use the actual jewelry itself, which is pretty blunt (so it tears the skin to go through). Reason why alot of people have trouble healing their ears, because it doesnt remove the skin it just pushes it aside, asking for more scar tissue. And with jewelry, expensive is generally better. Should be using titanium or stainless steel, rather than the cheaper things like nickel.

However, it does look very cute.

Awww how adorable!

(A side not about Claires, the ones around here in GA are not overpriced and have a HUGE selection of earrings and everything. But I refuse to get my ears done at Walmart or even by jewelry there. I am severly allergic to nickel, so only get earrings/other jewelry at claires. LOL.)

Thanks guys! Her shoes dont slip off, and we made sure of it before buying them. She has figured out how to get the velcro undone:rolleyes:. LOL. Silly girl.

Yes, a gun was used. I think it was safer that way, for her. She could have suddenly moved her head and got stabbed if a needle was used. That made me way nervous.

I've had mine done with a gun when I was 3 and they healed fine. Which is funny because I had my eyebrow and nose done with a needle and they both got so infected that I had to remove them. Yes, I cleaned them every day with proper solution. The only piercings that I've gotten that healed correctly is my lip (needle used), ear lobes (gun), and ear cartilage (gun).

My doctor actually pierced my ears when I was 4 months...no regrets from me or my parents. She is so precious, and I LOVE her and the punkins.

My doctor did mine when I was 8, it didn't get infected but the hole itself was shot diagonally, so that I always had to search for the side of the hole. :yikes: So I let it close up when I was 10 and re-did it. I have another cartilage piercing that I did on my own... didn't get infected ONCE. lol

I've been involved in the body modification community since I was 16. I'm 25 now..

As Zhucca stated above guns tear. Needles create clean holes. Some places do have disposable guns these days.. places that don't can and often do spread around varying types of hepatitis and HIV. Not something to play with, but many people don't realize the danger. All their cleaning products they show off to disinfect with aren't high enough quality to kill anything scary.

What is done is done (and she does look adorable especially in the pumpkin pics) but in future anyone thinking of adorning their child with what could be essentially considered a medical procedure shouldn't be going to the place that was the cheapest. Material and method matter greatly. Titanium and niobium are nickel free. Most 'mall like places' even when they advertise surgical stainless steel are using lower quality than you would ever know. To get high enough quality gold to avoid nickel you would have earrings that when you looked at them they would fall apart.

Barbells and circular earrings lead to being able to appropriately clean the wound. Studs do not. The aftercare is often inappropriate, over drying and the method of telling you to keep turning ones studs actually keeps tearing at the holes.

You may have had a bad experience with piercings done with needles, but perhaps the quality of the jewelry was low, or the aftercare wasn't as good as could have been suggested. A bad experience sucks, but guns are not the better route.

I agree 100%, Mafia...

Not trying to start something, Madison looks very pretty with her new digs, but it can be unsafe.

I was 8 when I got my ears done. They put pretty little silver studs in them. I did everything to the letter, turned them, cleaned them, so on... then I went to bed one evening. Woke up the next morning and my ear rings were gone. My ears were sore, but I thought that was because they were just healing. I looked everywhere for my ear rings, and could not find them.

I was in the bathroom getting ready for school, when my sis came in and said to me "I see where your ear rings went!". While I was sleeping, the ear rings had been pushed back inside my cartilage, basically gauging out my ear.

Never will I go to Wal-Mart for a piercing again, I also haven't had my ears done since then.
