It's been a long while since I've posted pictures of sugar gliders. In fact, I don't think I've posted any of Elphaba and Fiyero at all yet, and we've had them since June! *embarrassed*

Well, here they! These photos were taken on Tuesday. Enjoy!

Elphaba
She's the only girl in the trio, and the most in-your-face sugar glider I've ever met. It's her way, or the highway.

Teller
Teller is the oldest of our trio. He's almost three.

In the meantime, Elphaba attempts to escape...

Teller again
Can you see him?

Ahhhhh! I have elphaba and galinda the gliders:p Too funny! Thats what I get for getting them around the time I went to see wicked! I've gotta get pics of mine!

They are sooo cute! How do they get along together? We had thought about adding a third but I'm worried it wouldn't work. We have a giant cage now and I don't know if I have room for the bigger one.

I've just noticed all the different colors they have. Do they breed for the white face or does it just show up naturally in the line? He's a cutie!

We got ours right after seeing Wicked, too! That IS too funny! We had already gotten on the waiting list with our breeder, and then they came home a week or two after we saw the musical.

Our breeder doesn't generally breed for a lot of colors, but the white face is something that they breed for, along with a bunch of other color variations. I am not 100% on sugar glider genetics, so I don't really know how the "white face" lines started, though. I just let my breeder figure it out for me!

These guys do get along really well. They aren't all three living together yet, though. Teller has his own cage right now, and Elphaba and Fiyero are in a cage together. They are still a little small to move in with the big boy. :p They do get along really well during playtime, and we swap cages/pouches for them all the time. The introduction process has been long (we got Elphie and Fiyero in June), but it's working well so far. :) Honestly, Teller has been doing a lot better since these two moved in next door to him, since he lost his brother (RIP Penn) this spring and was alone for a couple months.

Sorrry to babble! I am in full suggie mode right now, and I like to share pet stuff as it is. So you probably got more of an answer than you were looking for. :lol-sign:

You and I should start a support group. Is "CAA" taken? For "Cute Animal-holics Anonymous"? That does have a certain ring to it. :p

Of course, any sort of "support" group like that would just be all of us trying to "support" each other in accumulating MORE cute animals. :rofl1:

OMG! I miss having suggies!

I never had a white face one, I've always wanted a white face blonde though! that and a leucestic(sp?).

I had a champagne, a standard gray, and a platinum glider. I really miss them, they were awesome! :(

The leucestics (I don't know how to spell it, either) are really cool, but WAY out of my price range. Lol! Fiyero is the first non-standard color we've had. Teller and Elphaba are both standards, as was Penn (RIP).

I am particularly fond of the white-tips and the mosaics as well. There was one gorgeous mosaic that a breeder was looking to sell as a "pet only" a while back... I wanted him soooooooooooooooooo much, but he was still almost $900. :yikes: I am willing to spend the money for suggies, but only if I can still afford to feed them after they come home! :D

yeah, suggies can get VERY expensive! and that food mix was a nightmare to make! LOL. I wish I could have just always fed them mealworms.... that wasn't nearly as annoying or gross! LOL.

The bf wanted the one that went for 3,500! I honestly don't even think its that cute:p

We have looked into getting a third. I had been looking into getting them and a friend told me about his sisters in a little bird cage getting just dog food,so I offered her 100$ and brought them home. They are nice but I'd still like a young one. They seem to tolerate me only-much better than they were when I got them though. But of course the pet stores that sell them are horrible and there are breeders somewhat close by but I sometimes question their breeding ethics.

And then if they don't get along I'd have to buy a fourth to get along with the third!

We haven't given them mealies in a while... Thanks for reminding me!

I'm glad you were able to rescue your babies! Sounds like they are doing much better with you than they were before. :)

Some suggies just don't bond the same as others. Teller has never really been overly keen about contact with us. He doesn't dislike it, but he's perfectly happy to just be a sugar glider and let us feed him. Elphaba, however, will leap out the cage door to get to you if you don't reach in for her fast enough. Lol!

I love our breeder. She is very particular about who adopts her sugar gliders (we had to fill out a bunch of forms and even had a phone interview when we first adopted Penn and Teller). And she has been a HUGE help to us. She has a sugar glider newsletter that she sends out every week with all sorts of tips and information, plus we can always just call/email her whenever we need anything. If you are interested to see her website, just PM me. :)

Great pics! They are such cuties!!
Thanks! :D

Thank you! We really lucked out on Fiyero. I wanted to get a white variation just so I could tell the two boys apart. It's a quite a bit pricier, but he is just gorgeous!

She is pretty cute. She and Teller are actually the same color variation, that being standard. I am a big fan of the standard coloring myself.

There is a lot of info out there! It's tough to say what is the "right" answer, because there are a lot of different opinions. For instance, there is a lot of controversy about diet. The short story is that they need fresh food every night, and the calcium/phosphorous(sp?) ratio has to be JUST right for bone development. They do require a lot of space for their size, because they are very active. They are nocturnal, and I mean really nocturnal... not like cats are nocturnal. They aren't necessarily the greatest pets for younger kids because they are fairly fragile, and aren't a good "starter pet" either because of all the specific attention they require. There is a lot of special care and attention that they need, and I know that writing it all out like this can look overwhelming, but once you get started it really isn't all that difficult.

I know I am only scratching the surface here, and I'm at work so I can't really go into a ton of details right now. But I can provide links!

Here is a lot of good information about suggies and their general care. This is also the diet plan that we happen to follow:
http://sugar-gliders.com/sugar-glider-care.htm
Here is the "Are Sugar Gliders Right for You?" section of the same website:
http://sugar-gliders.com/sugar-glider.htm

And to be fair to the other info that is out there, one of the more popular diets is called BML. I don't honestly know a whole lot about it now. (I did know more back when I was first researching sugar gliders, but since I don't use it I'm not all that familiar with it.) I *think* this is the basic recipe that most people follow:
http://www.angelfire.com/nb/sugarglider/leadbeat.html

There is also a forum that I am a member of that has TONS of info and personal experience of owning sugar gliders... I am not sure if it is within the rules of Chazhound for me to post a link here. Just PM me if you are interested in seeing that as well.

Hope that helps! I know there is a lot of info to cover, and I'll be happy to ask questions if you have any! :D
