I bought a no pull harness for Alexa yesterday. After only a short walk around the neighborhood (it was cold, lol) she was HEELING. PERFECTLY. IT WAS AMAZING!!!

I had taught her how to heel and she'd understand it, but then pull randomly on walks. Now that I'm using this, the minute she starts pulling she stops, waits for me to catch up and then walks beside me. It's awesome.

I hope eventually I'll be able to go back to her normal leash once she gets the hang of this. I'm so proud of my baby!!!

I highly recommend a no pull harness to anyone that has a big dog with pulling problems. I thought I'd never get her to stop pulling on leash. Now walks can be something I enjoy too!!!

YAY ALEXA!!!

Now to see how it works when passing other dogs... That'll be the real test. Cuz she goes ape-sh*t when she sees other animals. I think she's too playful and friendly for her own good sometimes, haha.

Yay!

Just keep in mind that a harness is just a training tool, it's not the end-all training technique. If she tends to react around other dogs, a harness is not going to "fix" that problem.... at best it will only mask the problem. The harness should SIMPLY keep your hands from hurting so bad when you do the same training you'd do with a flat collar. Good luck!

I used to have one for Kiba. She'd walk until it started pinching then stop.. once there was slack on the leash she'd walk until it would pinch then stop, etc. **** dog is too smart for her own good. LOL.

I know what you mean!!! Alexa figured out this trick where she could bend down sorta (i don't know how else to explain it, lol) and loop it around her "elbows" whenever she stopped to sniff something. **** smart dog, lol. Until I'd give her this look and then she was like, "fine... I'll keep walking..." haha.

Oh, I know, lol. Like when I was talking about her heeling, she was actually like listening to me and following what I was saying. She actually pays attention to me on walks now and such.

Once I know her on leash training is good I'm going to switch her back to her normal collar of course (even though that'll take a while *sigh*)

I'm just so happy that now I have a way for her to actually pay attention and not be a little spazz case on walks now.

Yay for ways of making training easier!

That's great!! Now that she pays attention you can work with her on walks until she's ready for the regular collar. Good to hear success stories! What kind of L do you use?

The type of GL I know and love does not pinch, that would defeat the purpose of choosing it over a prong (although maybe it hurts less). I know there are some that do, they hook on back and tighten when the dog pulls. I much prefer ones that hook on the chest and turn the dog when he pulls, it usually does not train the dog not to pull but prevents him from physically being able to (no leverage) so you can train him without rope burns or being dragged down the street and so the dog does not get the satisfaction of walking as fast as he desires, he just can't.

LOL I must not have been thinking straight, I kept talking about a gentle leader (although I ever forgot the G in GL) when I meant a harness, whoops! So I meant what kind of harness do you use and anywhere I wrote GL I meant harness!

That'll teach me not to try and type early in the morning.

I just got it at Wal-mart. It's one of the ones that loops behind her legs and when she pulls, something tightens and she turns. That's the best I can describe it. It's just some generic brand, but it works really well!!! And it was cheap!
