I have never owned a male dog. So when my little guy arrives I will not know how to care for his "boy bits". He is currently in tact and I will probably neuter him in about 6 months time, when he is 2.
I do all my own grooming (not professional at all) at home and with my little girl, I know how to clean her girl bits to ensure that there is not stubborn dirt left. I use a cotton pad and baby oil to wipe away the dirt and when she is in the bath I use a soft cloth and mild baby shampoo on her delicate areas.

How do I clean a boys bits? Is it similar at all to a girl? How do I make sure he is fresh and clean down there? This may be a totally random question but I am very uptight about my dogs being clean! LOL!

I guess I clean my boy dog and my girl dog the same way really---scrub while in the bath (although my boy is the only one whos glands need expressing as well) and they both get similar clips down there (sanitary clips I believe they are called) except that the boy sometimes needs his *ahem* ball hairs clipped....

LOL! My boy is going to have his whole ball area, including the balls clipped as soon as he turns 2.
So there is no major difference? Just wash as usual?

I've never done any special washing ....they seem to do a pretty good job themselves , Ollie enough , Ollie rarely licks himself .

I am pretty fastidious about my dogs "junk" as you put it! LOL!
I clean off the dirt with baby oil and then wash. I hate dirty toogies on a dog! LOL!

Congrats on the new dog, can't wait to see him!

As for sanitary cleaning, it's pretty much the same with boys vs girls. Although you did more cleaning with your past female dogs than I do with mine. With poodles I just have to make sure their hair is clipped and wash during bathing time.

The one difference with males though is when peeing a lot of them tend to pee on their front legs, especially little dogs. I'm lucky with Boomer, he's a squatter and never took to lifting his leg to pee.

one thing with longer haired dogs...

leave a couple of longer hairs (compared to the other hairs) on there so that it acts as a "guide" when they pee. Otherwise it could just stream kinda helter skelter everywhere...

I don't really clean my boys "junk" lol. I give them a bath every couple of months, and just basically wipe down there a bit. Dogs clean themselves down there. And I have never had a problem with my longhaired dogs privates. No poo gets stuck on his hair down there or anything like that.
