QUESO the Parakeet!

Corey had been asking for a small pet for a little over a year. He at first wanted to go with a hamster/gerbil but then recently changed his mind to a small bird of some kind.

His 12th birthday was last Wednesday and he finally got his wish :) I didn't announce it sooner because he was on a "test run" to be sure he was a good fit for Corey and the household in general.

He is very young, very tame, hand fed, and just a sweet little cutie pie!

Without any more blathering on, here is QUESO.......yes, spanish for cheese. That is the name Corey picked to give him, poor little fella LOL

Oh, and what do ya think as far as sex? I think the band looks like a boy, but he is pretty young.

he's a pretty boy...both of them :p !
Queso looks like a boy to me...but time will tell for sure.
Parakeets make a great small pet---tell Corey they can learn to speak a few words if he works with him!

Thanks bax!

Corey has already been all over the internet reading about his care. He follows me around the house telling me what Queso should/shouldn't eat, how/what he should play with, what he can learn and how to teach him! I am glad he is taking a good interest in all of this, I just wish he didn't feel the need to TEACH ME! hahahaha

I am afraid my house is turning into a petting zoo! Zac's birthday is in October and he is already saying he wants a bird too! But I think that will be nice for Queso if Zac gets a parakeet.........someone to keep him company while the boys are at school :)

QUESO! Too cute! I love the name. That's a great one. He even looks like queso dip! Sort of. With jalapeños in it... Or something. Maybe I'm just hungry. :p

Very pretty little bird! Parakeets are so much fun. I had one, and she was such a character. I'd love to get another one some day.

Thanks everyone!

He is very thrilled, he brings the cage downstairs every morning before school to put in the living room beside Marty the parrot so Queso won't be lonely :D

I look for Queso to start saying "Hello Marty" because THAT is one of Marty's favorite phrases! hahahaha

What a sweetie... I miss my birds.
I'd wager on a boy, but he's still a little young. Queso is a cute name. I got mine at 7 and named her Jello.

He actually looks like a female to me, his cere is not blue enough. But he's young so it might change bluer! :)

The sad thing is... I do that with my parents. Whether it's rats, dogs, bettas, or venus flytraps, they learn all about my pets and plants of choice... and they get so annoyed by it. But I can't HELP myself! :rofl1: My mom likes to hear about it, but my dad and stepmom [who never bother trying to have a real convo with me or changing the subject] loathe it. But I have nothing else to talk about with them, since they never talk to me about anything!

I didn't mean to make it sound quite so annoying, LOL, I find it rather sweet that he is so taken with Queso and learning everything he can. I feel I have raised him to be a good responsible pet owner and this is just one way it shows :)

I bet your mom is proud of you and finds it sweet that you also take pride in your pets and want the best for them :)
