Why do people wait until the last minute?

There are no shortage of posts like these on CL. Why do they wait until the last minute to rehome the dog? I also hate that many of them are one big run-on sentence. -_-

german shepherd female(diana) needs a loving home or today she will go to the pound i dont want that to happen she is a very loving dog loves to play she is pure breed as far as i know shes up to date on her vaccines she is all black with a little whitr spot on her chest she is 6 month old i have 6 children and 1 cat and she is very good with both she is also a great guard dog im located in landover md so if your interested in her please call another you must know she is allergic to alpo dog food

either lack of planning, or a sudden emergency situation, or just waiting for something to show up that will work out..

We have a lady here- took excellent care of her dogs, her husband died, she lost her house to foreclosure and believed it would work out until one week before... We know the dogs we were well cared for. In this day and age, it can happen.. Her border collies are in foster now. But she refused to let go until the 11th hour...

There are legit reasons behind this but usually laziness, denial and stupidity are behind it.
