border wants to kill

why did we get the the most attack to realy hurt other dogs border terrier i have ever heard of, he is 18 months now and getting worse with age,his brother bought at the same time exept for the odd ocasion is friendly with dogs.sammy the fighter and willow loe each other.but as it stands we will never be able to let him off the lead while out.he is a large 27lb dog willow smaller.

He needs serious work !!!!

we have tried,but it seems to me dogs that dogs with temperments like sam rarely change.he is the the most loveable dog to us.training classes may help possibly but do they realy work in cases like sam.

If you are dilligent about practicing, you will see results. He will still be dog aggressive, but you can replace his reactivity with something else.

IMO that attitude right there is part of the problem. I'm sorry if that comes off harsh... I'm not trying to sound mean... I have a dog that is really reactive to other dogs. I would be lying if I said there weren't ever times where my attitude drifted to the thought that, "OMG he's never going ever get better around other dogs," but I have to remind myself that I need to put my faith in him and really give him the training he needs to overcome it. He may not overcome it, but I'm going to give it my all to work with him on it. I know how frustrating it can be, but hang in there.

There are going to be some dogs that wont change, even with the most extensive of training... but don't throw the towel in just yet. He may always be aggressive... but there are many people on this board who have dogs that are dog aggressive. I hope some of them will see this thread and offer you some better advice. You need to see a behaviorist first and foremost in my opinion. I cannot stress enough how important it is that Sam see a behaviorist to be evaluated. Aggression is a serious thing.

If you want Sam to overcome this then it is going to require a lot of work on your part. I wish you the best of luck. I'm anxious to hear others responses. Chaz is a great place to find some amazing advice.

I would like to know how you define 'aggressive'? What does he do? Has he ever attacked another dog outside of his home? Is he only like this on leash?
Has he ever engaged another dog and bitten it?
Or does he just act like he will?
What have you done to train him? Was he properly socialized as a pup? At what age was he taken from his dam and litter mates? Is he neutered? If not, why not?
Have you been to a good trainer or behaviourist? Has he had any obedience training? How much time you infested in solving this problem?

Aggressive dogs don't necessarily

need to change; but their owners sure do.

Sam may or many not change; you (human) certainly can. From the quoted statement it doesn't seem that you've had a chance to go to training classes. Find a trainer that specializes in high drive dogs (you have a terrier; they often are dog aggressive/challenging and high drive); and go to a few classes w/o Sam just to see what's what.
Get an idea of what you are going to be required to do; what the trainer expects and how the dogs in class appear to be behaving.

At the very least; even if Sam is still not able to interact with other dogs, you will have learned to manage him and his environment to prevent situations from occurring.
