I cannot believe what happened in that thread while I was gone... JEEZ LOUISE! A few of the people that came in to critique are members that I have never before encountered, on all of Chaz. And that's pretty unusual for me. D:
Honestly, the thread was less of a "bash Cesar" thread, and more of a general "WTF" thread. I would NEVER angrily confront some one about their training techniques, unless of course they were harming the dog, and I would NEVER force my beliefs on others, and tell them that my training techniques will solve all of their problems, period. I didn't describe the conversation that well, but the guy was pushy and threatening about it, not just passionate. My friend kept looking at me like STOP!, and I kept trying to defuse the situation, but he continued arguing and lecturing and insisting.
I was, more than anything, appauled that he told me to "watch the show, and it will solve everything"... How many other people has he told this, people who are less educated on the subject and the show? He did not tell me to buy the books. He did not tell me to go to CM seminars, to see a behaviorist in-person, or to educate myself, assuming that I wasn't. He simply told me to WATCH the show, a 30 minute long show, that cuts out 99% of the process and is obviously edited for the biggest shock factor possible. Maybe those techniques do work for some people, but a 30 minute long, glorified, super edited show is NOT going to accurately teach anyone how to utilize such techniques. And the BEST part about the whole thing was when he ended with, "Oh, but, the show says don't try this at home..." Then why are YOU trying it at home, ignoramus?
I have noted this type of behavior in several other CM fans, but I haven't experienced it in such a frightening manner, in person, before yesterday. Yanno, the people who entered that post and ignored my initial post completely, and instead viciously defend Cesar Millan himself... well, they're only proving that CM fans DO, in fact, tend to be incredibly narrow-minded and cult-like. I have never experienced such aggressive, holier-than-thou attitudes from ANYONE with ANY other training preferences; and I have worked and volunteered with an assortment of trainers, with various preferred techniques.
Anyhoo, since I didn't get a chance to post on that thread, I wanted to clear up my intentions. I also found it pretty childish to mis-quote you, Adorjrts. It's actually quite creepy.
