first things first, we had about a dozen dogs show up. Rose won almost every class- biggest ears, longest tail, fluffiest, etc so we finally just had to pull her and not enter her anymore because we felt bad for the other dogs.

We raced all the paps and Summer won(Rose came in last)- she's the fastest one there! Racing papillons is quite interesting I think it should be a new sport! I didn't get any pictures unfortunately because I was on the other side of the field. But she was also the only one that didn't have to have someone hold her. I sat her in a stay and then called her.

My breeder couldn't come, it turns out they had pups born today. Originally they thought they'd be born in a week but found out at the vets that she was due earlier than they originally thought. so they had four pups- two girls and two boys. Sire is a black and white gorgeous boy and the dam is a red and white. One girl is marked almost identical to Rose and the other is a mismark with a white face. One of the boys has a crooked blaze and the other has a big wide one. I'm hoping she gets a good show prospect out of one of the boys. It's been a long time since she's had a litter. I'm hoping I can go over and visit the pups in a few weeks. ;)

Overall went well. Ours were about half the size of those others! I thought we should've snuck Trey in for a papillon since he was the same size as the rest of them. Everyone kept asking if we were breeders, which I found kind of amusing.

Beau and Jake, our friend's dog. Our friends were looking for a dog (they had decided on a golden), then met Beau and decided they needed a dog like Beau, so they ended up with Jake.

Yay!!! What great photos! And Summer's stains are GONE, WOW!!! Amazing what a good diet will do for a dog... ;)

And good for Rose for winning a lot - she deserved it IMO. It makes me so happy to see her blossom (literally, her being a ROSE and all) in your care. Keep up the good work. :)

Is Jake a mix? O.O

VERY cute pictures.. I love them!
Nope, all the dogs were purebred

At the risk of sounding very snotty this is one example of why to shop at a good breeder. None of the other dogs were very 'papillon' as far as type goes. Most were 13-16 lbs with very long faces like Jake's (i know you can't see them in the pics) and short hair. Summer was one of the fluffiest and she wasn't shown due to her lack of coat, which can kind of say a lot.

Jake's mom is friends with us. She wanted a dog just like Beau so we pointed her to our breeder and a couple more show breeders but they told us they had found a breeder with dogs in the $400 range, which for papillons is unheard of. If you find a breeder selling pups for $1000 less than most reputable breeders of that breed, then I'd be more than a little wary. there may be a reason. He's a great dog, just far from the ideal papillon.

Most were really going on and on about Beau, yet these two people with two ginormo papillons were really critical about his ears and I overheard. There's a lot more to papillon type than just big ears. And even with ears, its size, placement, shape and feathering not just size. He is lacking there, but imo was by far the most 'correct' dog there.

Used to most breeders of papillons were very good breeders but they've doubled in popularity recently and quality goes down. Lots of people just breed because they're still relatively unknown and there is a market. These dogs that are bred really don't look 'right'. Not that they're bad dogs, it just makes me kind of sad to hear of people breeding these way way out of standard dogs. (The black dog was bred to a big sable and had that HUGE puppy)

Even though my three look TOTALLY different I hope you can look at any one of them and know their breed right away.

In this breed conformation should really really be taken into account. It doesn't seem to take too long until you end up with dogs that barely resemble the breed.

thanks! It was so cute when they raced, lol! Summer went barreling down the field and Rose was going along at a slow pace, then turned around and ran back to my mother!

Rose has really blossomed. Our old vet owns Gherkin and she hadn't seen her since we first got her and she was amazed. Rose didn't hide or be shy at all. She's just doing so great!
