Well... my neighbor pissed me off today. She lives right across the hall from me. Basically... they have two little dogs that run loose. One is a purebred chihuahua they say, but doesn't look purebred to me. The other is some sort of rat terrier mix. Anyways... they run loose everywhere. Cristy and I were talking out on my balcony when she and Stef came over last weekend and we saw them running loose back and forth across the parking lot. They're going to get hurt. They're going to get hit by a car or something or run into another dog.

Anyways, there's two ladies that live there. They're apparently a couple. I talked to one of them the other day about leashing them and explained that they are risking one of them getting seriously injured. Apparently the chihuahua is DA. Great... that just adds more the mix.

Anyways... guess what happens today? I'm out walking Bamm. Bamm is on a leash. Bamm is ALWAYS on a leash. All of a sudden what comes running around the corner? Two little dogs... OFF LEASH :yikes:

The little chihuahua saw Bamm and rushed up on him and attacked him. He attacked back. He lunges at other dogs and when he lunged I ended up having to hold him up so that he was standing on his hind legs. If I didn't do that he would have gotten ahold of that little dog and seriously injured it. He did manage to get one bite on the little dog and the Chi also bit him.

The owner grabbed her dog and yelled at me. WTH? My dog was on a leash lady. Yours was NOT!! I yelled back and it was interesting to say the least. I spoke with our grounds keeper and he's going to talk to them about it. I highly doubt they'll listen to him though.

I'm annoyed...no... I'm not annoyed. I'm utterly pissed off.

ya definitely. These situations really irritate me because it's so irresponsible on their part and also because I'm trying so hard to work with Bamm on his reactivity and I'm worried these kinds of situations might set him back some.

Its always annoying when people arent responsible... living in apartment complexes is soo frustrating because you have no control over what happens there.

Hopefully something gets done about it.

Definitely. The way our building works is you walk through a glass door that leads to the stairwell that we go up to get into our condo. The other day the lady also had the dogs offleash. I opened up the door for Bamm and me to leave for a walk and all of sudden there's a Chi right there coming after us. The lady grabbed the dog before it had a chance to touch Bamm though.

As long as your dog is on leach , NOTHING is your fault ! The little poodle next door and barks and nips at Ollie . Luckily he doesn't care , but he could kill that dog with one bite !

Next time, I say you kick them before they get close, or douse them in pepper spray. Unless she puts them on a leash of course, in which case I'd be ready for them to 'escape' when you are around.

Its funny when its your fault when your dog is the one on the leash. Why? Because your dog is bigger than the chihuahua, I guess.:rolleyes:

I would seriously call animal control. The owners of the two little dogs obviously dont care much about their dogs safety if they let them run loose.

If it were me, I would let my dog defend himself before I would physically pull his front legs off the ground by the collar around his neck. I dont care how little the other dog is either.

How their those little chihuahua...attack your dog???
Probably they are blind, lol and under estimate your dog...Bamm...
I don't think its your fault because your in the right track...
Even their dogs are small they need to be responsible too..
Dogs are dogs whether it is big or small, we pet owners need to be responsible...

I'm sorry! I know how much that sucks!! I've been tempted to let people have an earful for letting their dogs run loose, but I'm too shy. Unless I get in a temper, and then I just end up shouting stupid stuff that doesn't make any sense.

I don't think I'd let Oz or Bamm (if Bamm was mine) defend themselves. That might teach them that it's okay to attack other dogs, and would definitely (okay, probably) make a reactivity or DA issue worse.

Frankly, I have a reactive dog and I wouldn't let any dog get that close to her. As much as I don't want to, my first instinct would be kicking that dog away. Or as someone said, pepper spray. Someone suggested to me a mixture of lemon juice and water in a spray.

Doesn't your town have a leash law? Your poor pup--that's all he needs. Stupid owners of the lose dogs, ggrrrhhh!

Yup there's a leash law in our area. I definitely will let Animal Control know about what happened. They don't seem to really do a whole lot around here though. I called them when one of my other neighbors was hitting and kicking his dog and AC did nothing about it. I don't even know that they ever even came out to talk to the guy.

Reggin, the reason I felt the need to hold him up was for the reason that Charliedog stated. I've heard so many stories of reactive dogs developing full blown DA after multiple run ins with other dogs like this. I couldn't think of any other way to react at the moment. I don't know why I didn't think to kick the other dog. Honestly, I should have. I carry my Kershaw knife on me for just in case I need it. Brendan and I have talked a couple times about what kinds of pepper spray I should look into. There are different levels of pepper spray right?

THAT sucks. I'm so sorry for you and Bamm. I'm glad he's ok. Poor guy!

I called Animal Control, I think, twice last year. We DO have leash laws here and I called on my neighbor for her off leash shih-tzu. What sucks is her shih-tzu is still off leash. Oh well. I can usually scream at the dog and she stays away now. And Ella won't even look at her.

Now, the lady down the street with the English springer/setter/pointer-whatever dog? She'd better keep that dog on a leash. Ella notices him and WILL hurt him.

Owners of off leash dogs SUCK.

The lemon juice in water sounds like a good idea. Why do so many chi's have to think they are big dogs? We got one of those behind us too.

HAHA I'm not sure... but a few days ago when I had talked to them about my concern with their dogs being off leash all the time one of the ladies laughed about it and said that her chihuahua is dog aggressive and knows how to show them big boys who's boss. yes my jaw dropped like this :yikes:

I told them that this would eventually happen if they didn't leash them... and then it happened... I mean... I totally told them it was bound to happen. UGHHHHH!!!! Oh and did I mention the lady called me white trash?

Want me to beat her up for you? 'Cause I will. :p

Its wrong of me. Extremely wrong of me, but I think one day she will probably find out exactly what that Chi has learned, and the Chi will probably pay for it with his life.

The same way a big dog attacks.. with their teeth...? Obviously there isn't a huge worry about Bamm being injured, but Amber doesn't want him to develop full-blown dog aggression, and he's already very reactive. Incidents like this only set back their training.

I have some words for her, and I assure you, they have nothing to do with a slur on her race. In fact, they have nothing to do with her race at all and only what an absolute idiot she is. And the food they feed, I can insult her on that, too, because I'm a snob about food.:popcorn:

Instead of lemon in water you should soak a gently pounded chilli in water over night. Put that in a spray bottle. This will work for both humans and dogs and is more affective.

I know that having a little dog myself I am ALWAYS very careful to keep her fully under control. She is very friendly to all dogs and I worry that she might approach a dog who is not so friendly. So she is leashed!
