I have heard that they will now microchip in ears has anyone had this done/done it/ or known someone? Does anyone know if the sheltars are actively checking ears? We want to get Whisper done but she has no Body Fat to really keep it in place so we are worried about it shifting. So we thought the ear would be good.

My vet scans the whole body in case the chip slips. I've never heard of it being done in ears.

I cant remember where i heard that it could be done (maybe the greyhound people) but I dunno LOL. When we took a dog to be chipped scanned at HS they only scanned the sholders.

Hmm. I'd recommend they scan a larger area because they can slip. My vet and local shelters all do from the back of the head, down the shoulders and the whole back area.

The only problem with that is if your dog is stolen, it's very, very easy to crop those ears. I've seen ex-racing Greys with no ears due to people cropping them to remove the tattoo.

on the other hand if chips do cause cancer (cancer growths around the chips are being found) it is easy to remove an ear.

I heard about maybe doing it in the tail, so if it does trigger cancer it can be amputated easily. I wouldn't do it at this stage though, a lot of vets don't check tails.

Mia they couldnt grab her long enough to do it  If anybody were to find her they would have to lasso her or run her into a cage with someone else. Idont know really why mom wants to do it but she asked me to find info about it since im the major dog person. Shes got a abnormal temperment for a Havanese she is a very one person dog still after 2 years she doesnt like me and is just now starting to come to my brother who has been with her since day 1.
