Merrick Canned Mackerel ***graphic photos***

Okay so maybe not graphic, but if you're squeamish about dead sigh stewing in their own juices, it would be best to skip this thread!

The owner of one of my favorite dog bakeries gave me a whole bag of Merrick canned food for dogs and cats. The cat food will go to my parents, but the dog food is staying here! I gave them the canned mackerel today, and while I knew what to expect since my parents feed the smaller version to their kitties, I wasn't exactly ready for the "doggie version"...

Oh, the Horsemen love mackerel! It's one of their faves. But a random question: I don't see really see any difference between that and the canned mackerel you get in the store. What makes it dog specific? Do you know the ingredients?

I'm not trying to be a party-pooper or anything, I'm just honestly curious.

Not sure - it's just made for doggies I suppose, maybe less oil. and the mackerel is more formed, and has the heads and fins still attached. Yumm, mackerel brains!

i am not easily grossed but this is something really unusual for me... i will never feed my dog something like that...

Bamm is a picky eater... but I honestly think he might go nuts for something like that. I wonder where I can find some to let him try it.

Is the head and tail parts even good for them? Yuck... Very interesting to be in a dog food can, that's for sure.

Ooh, I bet my dogs would love that! I'll have to see if they carry Evangers in my area.

OK, I personally can't eat anything that looks back at me so I don't think I could give it to my dogs.

The thought of rubbing their faces in the carpet afterwards won't get out of my mind. Ewe, the carpet would sink!

LOL Barb! Boomer does that when he eats anything...it's pretty gross. And we don't have carpet so he does it on the couch, bed, blankets what ever is most convenient.

My grandmother used to love eating the head of mackerel, loved the eyes, she thought it was the best part...I thought it was disgusting. lol

Ooo the boys LOVE canned sardines and mackeral!!! I just get them from the grocery store though...the low sodium (salt) ones in spring water, not the ones in oil or sauces! Its great for their coats too! Hmmm maybe that will be tomorrow's breakfast....

That was my first thought, canned mackerel and salmon for people are LOADED with salt.........perhaps its down to a minimum for the dogs.

It looks just disgusting enough for my two to BEG for more! :lol-sign:
