So I finally found a place that sells super premium dog foods. Very exciting! I initially went in with a mindset of Canidae or EVO. I was leaning towards Canidae from the start, though, since I've read a few things discouraging starting puppies on EVO too soon... and Canidae is more in my price range.

So I bought a bag of Canidae. Morgan seems to like it. The cats do, too. LOL! I am probably going to switch them over to Felidae in the near future, as well. But that's another story.

Anyways, while I was there I also saw Eagle Pack. I have heard of this brand a few times on this forum. I just haven't heard about it a lot, and I wasn't sure where it fell on the "good food" spectrum of products. The gal that was helping me at the store seemed to prefer it over Canidae. She just didn't really have a lot of info to tell me about the difference between the two... other than Eagle Pack has more variety. Both are comparable in price. Eagle Pack is the bit more expensive of the two, but it is still within a reasonable range that I can currently afford.

Also, I was reading their website and discovered that Eagle Pack is made here in Indiana. I like to support local stuff, but I want to be sure that the product is truly of good quality first. :)

That ends my rambling. Any recommendations? Thank you all so much! :hail:

I'm bumping this, but only once!

Maybe I asked the wrong question... does anyone here use Eagle Pack?

Thanks!

I feed Canidae, but I've heard good things about Eagle Pack.
Here's some responses I got when I questioned about evo v. canidae

''Depends on how much grain and the individual dog. My first husky was on Nutro and she did well for the first few years. Then suddenly she started having chronic diarrhea. The vet suggested switching her over to Eagle Pack (http://www.eaglepack.com). It's not grain free, but it is holistic. She never had a problem again. Now every dog that sets foot in my house gets fed Eagle. Quinn does great on it. But if he gets any kind of treats with grain in them his ears flare up. Red, itchy, stinky, just totally gross. Between the Ol' Roy dog biscuits he LOVES and the treat of getting some cat food now and then, the grains in those products were wreaking havoc with his ears. I stopped with the grain packed treats but continued with the Eagle and his ears cleared right up. So I'm guessing the grains in the cat food and biscuits are way worse than the grains in the dog food.''

''Luna has been on both Evo and Canidae. The Evo made her sick as a dog, no pun intended! I introduced it very slowly and she had the runs within minutes of eating a couple of pieces.

Canidae was much better for her stomach, but she had sort of a blah coat and eyes. Now, a lot of people I know swear by it, so my experience is in the minority.

The food we are on now we LOVE. It is the Eagle Pack Holistic Anchovy Sardine and Salmon Meal.

Juicy,

Thanks for the input! :) I feel better knowing that others do feed Eagle Pack. Most of what I've read of it here are from folks switching FROM Eagle Pack to something like EVO... which I just can't do right now. But if Eagle Pack is still a good brand, I am going to keep researching it. :D

Thankyou thankyou!

eagle pack has a great holistic line! If I had to chose to feed Canidae or Eagle Pack, I'd choose EP, but only because Canidae didn't work out with my crew. :)

I feed Eagle Pack Holistic Lamb and Rice to my Griffon Honey and I raw feed Wrigley (just because Honey is allergic to every other sort of protein). I think that Eagle Pack is a great company and the ingredients are great. It does contain grain though which some do not prefer--although it isn't towards the top of the list and I don't believe ever contains things like corn. I too love the fact that they are in Indiana!
Where are you at? I am in Lafayette.

Same here. My dogs are thriving on EP. I have been feeding it for 4 months solid and even after feeding other premium brands they look by far the best on EP.

I've been feeding my dog Canidae and my cats Eagle Pack for about 3 years. I had tried the cats on Felidae and they hated it. I mean hate. They would just go days without eating. I stayed with Canidae for the dog only because she seems to do well on it and she likes it. But, I am impressed with the Eagle Pack brand. Since we started the cats on it (and a little PH- stuff by wysong) they have had no kidney/bladder infections, where before it was constant. I'm sold.

I didn't realize that Eagle Pack has cat food! That is good to know. I've been zeroing in on researching dog food that I forgot all about checking for the cats.

Thanks! :)
