Well, how often do you upgrade?

I got my Pentax K200d (an 08 model) in 2012 when I dropped my K100d in the ocean. It had 2000 shots when I bought it, and is now up to 7000. The K100d was new and died at 11000 shots and 5 years old.

A DSLR should be able to make it to 100,000 shots without a problem, most are rated that as their standard life expectancy.

My first DSLR was a new camera, a Canon Rebel T1i, that I purchased the year it was released, 2008, from Best Buy. I sold that one in 2013 when it was around 60,000 shots and bought a used 50D which was at about 50,000 shots when I bought it. I then sold that 50D a little over a year later, in 2014, when it was at 75,000 shots and bought a new 70D.

I will probably have the 70D for about 5 years until it breaks or something significantly better comes out.

I got a replacement for my D80 for Christmas after the shutter went out. I had purchased it the year before from a professional photographer friend who was changing from Nikon to Cannon. It had well over 100,000 pictures on it. The d80 was fixed due to sentimental reasons (camera she used for my wedding), and seems to be working great.

I hope to have my D7000 for many years, at least 100,000 shutter clicks

I've only ever had one :) and it's more capable than I am. It's a 60D and though there are newer ones out, this more than fills the requirements I have. I'll be upgrading lenses before I get a new camera, but I can see in another 5 years or so this one going kaput. Then I will probably upgrade to a full frame and I'll see what they have going at that time.

I think I'll stick with Canon since that's my investment in lens and flash.

Most cameras today and even from 5-10 years ago are very, very capable cameras. It all comes down to light and lenses basically. At least for me.

I was hoping you guys would help make me get a new K-3 ;)

I guess 6-7 years is a big enough jump to justify it if I find a spare $1000. Double the megapixels, 30x the iso range (not sure how much is actually usable though), new portrait grip... and apparently a built in intervalometer!
