It's so unfortunate for all five dogs, as for the author of the article.. the whole introduction doesn't help the stereotype for the breed. I know a pitbull mix and he's the most devoted dog I know, and tolerates Cali like a saint. It's all in how they're trained and has some to do with their breeding, or so I think.

Tip: anytime you read a story in which animals end up dead or needing to be euthanized after being attacked by a dog, or children being wounded seriously enough to need hospital attention, you’ll be right most of the time if you guess the attacking dog was a pit bull.
Really? So all those other stories I've read about Akitas, mastiffs, gsds, huskies etc. who have attacked people and animals don't matter?

I hate ignorant fear-mongering.

Since when do other dog breeds rarely kill other animals? There are LOTS if other breeds that will happily kill other animals. Not only breeds known for prey drive either-plenty of labs have been known to kill critters.

And yes, it is very tiring....

Of course the stories we read are usually pit bulls, because that's where the hype is, and media follows hype. That doesn't mean they are the ones causing most of these cases, or that they are dangerous dogs when bred and raised/handled appropriately. Attcks by other breeds are either not reported on, or don't get the breed in the article - at least not the title. The wording is very different in those cases as well.

Also, I like how the author throws out stats like pits making up 3% of the dog population. Given how people categorize "pits," I'd say that is a HUGE underestimate. I also like how a man with no real education in dogs is cited to back up the main point of the article. Nice.

I guess this 8 year old boy's death doesn't count because the dogs that killed him weren't Pit Bulls or pit bull mixes: http://www.cibolabeacon.com/news/ch...cle_4fad7c6e-53c2-11e2-8aaf-0019bb2963f4.html

I guess this baby boy's death doesn't count because he was killed by a JRT: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-shropshire-20464419

I guess this woman's death doesn't count because she was killed by a Mastiff: http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/201...wn-140-pound-mastiff-dog-authorities-say?lite

I guess this 83 year old man's death doesn't count because he was killed by Rottweilers: http://www.kait8.com/story/19600069/one-dead-after-being-attacked-by-dogs-in-leeds

I could go on, but I don't think it's necessary.
