The vets have finally told us whats wrong with shadow.....

Yesterday lee, shadow and I visited the specialist 250miles away, so she could have an mri scan, so the vets could finally find out what was wrong with her. (see my previous link: The vet doesnt know whats wrong. ).

It was the longest day of my life. We left the house at 7am, took us 5hrs 30mins to get there, plus someone drove into the back of my car on the way there, but thats onother story. Got there at 12.30. We went into see the vet, told her all the symptoms, etc, answered all her questions. She examined shadow, and then explained she still thought the mri scan was the best thing to do. But advised us because shadow is a puppy and because she has potentially something wrong with her brain, she was at quite a high risk of not waking up from the anethestic. Wow, that was a bit of a shock, but we decided shadows got a stong will and would pull through. They told us she'd have her scan at 3.30pm and they'd also do a spinal tap. And to come back at 5.00pm. So we said our goodbyes and set about wasting the next 4 hrs. We went into the local town, wandered around, went for some food, but didnt eat much, we were too worried. It was the longest 4hrs of my life, I was convinced something bad was going to happen. So we went back at 5pm, hadnt had a phone call from the vets, so I figured she must have come round from the anesthetic. We then waited another 30mins before we saw the vet, out came the vet from the consulting room, and with her was shadow! Looking fit as a fiddle, minus a big patch of fur on the back of her head where she had her spinal tap!

So the vet took us into one one the consulting rooms, to give us the results. The mri scan came back clear! Which means, she hasnt got a tumor or a defect or brain damage, or any other number of horrible things. The vet then explained that shadow has whats called a functional disease. When she was born she was born with micronisms in her brain, there are so many different types that they cant pinpoint which type it is. These micronisms, affect certain functions, in shadows case its her balance. There's nothing they can do to get rid of theses micronisms, but shadow will learn to live with them, and to compensate for these little episodes she has. As she gets older she'll do it less. But we can give her travel sickness tablets to help her if we want to. I couldnt belive it, we were over the moon! She'll be ok!! We still have to wait for the spinal tap test to come back, but the vet believes it'll also come back clear. If so then she'll get better as she gets older. We just have to keep an eye on her as she get older.

I am so happy, here's a video of shadow the day before we went to the specialist, frolicing in the pond where we take her for walks.

Shadow swimming!

Its not great quality cos I took it on my mobile, but you should be able to get most of it.

Im sooooo happy!!! :D
