I had my suspicions that I might have PCOS and I just found out that an ultrasound confirmed said suspicions. I have multiple follicles and enlarged ovaries, all "consistent" with PCOS according to the report. I'm obviously going to follow up with my ONGYN, but I'm reading up this thing in the meantime.

Does anyone on Chaz suffer from PCOS? Would you mind sharing experiences, advice, etc?

I have it too and it is a pain in the a$$ for me. Especially as I'm more concerned than anything I won't be able to have my own child.

Currently my doctor is focusing on getting my periods started / regulated. I don't get them unless I'm on birth control, so that's what I'm currently on it for. I also have the problem with increased hair growth on places such as my face - which I hate and has always made me self councious, even though so long as I am on top of it, as I am with removal, no one can really tell. I've only just started trying to figure it out, recently, so not really any advice.

Yep! Periods were out of wack for a long time and I had some screwy prolactin levels to. They want to try me on metformin but my blood sugar drops to low and she will not put me on it. I have the excess hair growth awful. Hate it :(

My dr thinks when I went off the bc to get pregnant I caught right in a spot where it still had my cycling right. Sounds counterproductive but three months on can make your cycle more even.

Yup, I have it, too. My periods have always been out of whack until they kind of stopped unless I took BC. I don't have an issue with excessive haired, but when my periods went missing, I put on a lot of weight quickly. And no matter what I tried, I couldn't get it off. My obgyn started me on Metformin and that has been a life saver. It hasn't done much with regulating my periods, stay are still awol (had to take progesterone supplements since we were trying to conceive), but has definitely helped with my weight (I lost 60+ lbs) and stabilizing my blood sugar.

I am incredibly lucky to be 8 months pregnant.

I have it. No periods anymore (since I first started, I usually only had one per season or so) but it's been god, 2-3 years since I had a full period. I don't care, I love it :p. This is actually a benefit to me! Don't want kids either so that isn't a problem.

I don't have excess hair loss but I do have the darkening around skin folds (my knuckles look dirty, hah). And I'm fat, where yes I'm not exactly dieting, but I don't eat excessively and I have an active job. If I wanted to eat very little, no carbs and run ten miles a day I could probably lose weight but it's hard to keep it off. I'd like to try Metformin but my obgyn wasn't well versed in PCOS (pft) and sent me to another specialist and we didn't get along well :p. Maybe when I get my health insurance back on track I can get that taken care of.

I'm going to contact my doctor about that. Weight has been an issue for me too. And I'm not even an inactive person, I'm quite active, and it just never seems to go away. I also gained it very fast as a kid and it's kind of stuck.

PCOS and endometriosis here. I have been dealing with this for a very long time! I am an insulin dependent diabetic, overweight, have to wax the extra hairs, and infertile (but after lots of treatments I have a son who is turning 5 in a few weeks!). Diabetes is something to really think long and hard about. You need to start watching your carb intake. All of those carbs are turned into glucose and the nasty cycle of building insulin resistance begins. My doctors sent me to a diabetic nurse before I was diabetic to help me meal plan and discuss the risks that i ran for becoming a diabetic. Unfortunately, 10 years ago I had to have half of my pancreas surgically removed because of a mass. This was a major contributing factor to becoming insulin dependent. Life with PCOS can be scary at first when you start researching all of the things that can happen but overtime it becomes reality and isn't so scary anymore.

I have it in combination with diabetes, which either stemmed from the pcos or had been present since i was a child. I take metformin. I have an IUD for birth control so I still don't really have to deal with periods.

I think the only two symptoms I really notice are the difficulty in weight loss and thinning hair, but I've noticed that my hair is mostly grey and it could just be a change in texture.

My face is fuzzy, but always has been, so I am used to waxing my eyebrows and upper lip and tweezing whatever looks like it's poking out. I'm Italian, so I honestly don't know how much of my body hair is due to my genetics and how much is due to PCOS but it's not that difficult for me to maintain the level of hygiene and hairlessness I desire. :p

Yeah it sucks.

At least I won't end up with an unplanned pregnancy. That's about the only bonus.
I did.

If a doctor tells you that you can't get knocked up because conception is very unlikely with PCOS, call them on their bullshit because you're being lied to.
