My dog keeps being gay.

Some vets know the medical parts of animal care, but never do have a good grasp of the every day parts. Like training and feeding . . .

I second that notion! The vet who owned the clinic I worked at was horrible. I hated his advice on training, feeding and not to mention how he man-handled all the patients to show how dominant he was. He was absolutley horrible. He is one of the reasons I quit and don't trust vets!!!

well i shouldnt say my vet..although mine is bad too..gave his booster shots too early...it was a vet in the pet store who saw my unfriendly dog(at the tiem)and told me she just graduated to be a vet and knows some tips to help us...i thought she would know cuz shes a vet,,,, and was eager to help, and seemed to know..but thanx u guys outvote her.lucckily i hadent done it yet

Keep in mind that puppies are incapable of claiming dominance anyway. Their brains simply aren't wired for it yet. They can get bossy and clingy, but they can't grab and hold a dominant position until they're around a year(?), maybe 9 or 10 months. So rolling a puppy is just going to frighten and confuse it.

I think it's getting downright stupid how little we can trust a vet, or a people doctor for that matter. It's so important to know your facts so you can catch the b.s. that comes your way.

no their not gay their working out who is the dominent end of the relationship. If you have ever seen a litter of puppies there is alot of mounting going on to show who is dominent. And as adult dogs they will do the same thing kinda a reminder like "hey don't forget im better then you so don't get out of line".

ALso your other dog sniffing them is fine dogs will be dogs

Don't grab the paws. You can either put the dog on its back or grab it by the muzzle.

Someone like Pits with all those years of experience is different than a relatively new dog owner, Lea. Remember, she's been training dogs pretty much since she could walk. You have to be very self-assured and calm to do that sort of thing, as well as knowing the dog you're dealing with very, very well

I don't know if anyone said this (somebody probably has) but it's too show who's the "man", a show of dominance. My pup tried to do that to me, I couldn't help laughing, lol. A lot of animals have unique ways to show dominance

They are doing this as a sign of dominance. A lot of dogs will do it. Puppies will do it out of seeing who is the stronger dog in the pack.. My daughter's neutered Pappion started to mount our granddaughter when she started crawling.. He stopped when she started walking.. We joke that she started walking so early 11 months just to get away from him..LOL'
now here is a good one for you.. My sister in law has a female pitbull and a Male lab/pit.. The male had been fixed since he was 1. When the female came into heat the first time at 1 year he mated to her.. Now I don't mean just mounting I mean, LOCKED together. He did it one day 3 times.. I talked to my vet about it and he had never heard of a male being about to mate after he had been fixed.. Just goes to show you that a dog will be a dog..

Our old dog Odie, who has since passed away, was neutered, but he LOVED little girls, little HUMAN girls. It was very embarrasing. Every time a little girl came over, you'd see Odie get this lustful look in his eye and he'd go right for her. Needless to say, Odie would be escorted to another room quickly. What a life, our dog was a child molester.

It is an instinct for a male dog to mount a female dog when she is in heat for only one reason.... to reproduce. I had 2 female rotties, a male rottie and a pug for several years until they started to die one by one of old age. My oldest female rottie would mount the other female and the male as well. It was funny as hell to watch it knowing she didn't have the proper "equipment" to be the one initiating the mounting. The vet assured me I did not have a confused dog. She was obviously the alpha female of the pack and she was just displaying her dominance over the other 3 dogs. This went on for years... we got many laughs over it. So, no need to frett. Your dog is just trying to take the role of alpha and showing the other dog she is the boss.

Well, Molly sometimes tries to hump King when he's asleep, she knows that he will not allow her to even do a single "pump" before knocking her off.

What he does to her sometimes is an entirely different thing. He DOES have sex with her! She doesen't like it one bit. I try to make him stop it, but usually I just see him pumping away out in the back yard, with her trying to turn her head around and nail King, and it's too late. I took them to the vets a few weeks ago, and the vet saw him doing it to her while we were in the waiting room. A friend had their leashes while I went to the bathroom. The vet thought it was amusing more than anything else, but was surprised that he was able to do it, as he's been neutered for over 3 years now. A couple of times, he seems to have come close to tieing with her, but just can't quite do it. He does "finish" though. She is totally confused as to what he's doing, but he knows exactly what he's doing to her.

Most of the time though, it's just a dominace thing. He is extremely dominant, but not aggressive.

Well here's what happens in our house, keep in mind we have 3 boys and 1 girl (Cocoa Anne), all are fixed. Houdini has started humping Myles, Cocoa humps Myles and now Chewey is trying to hump Cocoa. It drives me nuts it is like a giant hump fest going on. Cocoa is definitely alpha at the house and I'm guessing Chewey is trying to take that roll over. Poor Myles he is always the humpee never the humper...LOL

Gracie is 5 months old and has started humping Princess.
I was glad to see you say that Renee about giving that one the last treats. I always make Gracie wait last to get the treat. She gets so anxious, excited and tries to steal from me the treats. I make all 3 sit, she has to sit calmly and wait while I give Kokomo and Princess a treat, then her. This takes alot of control for her when the treat is left over steak or something tasty like that.
