Thanks for the advice everyone!
I like the new vet we have for the cats, and that's where I plan on taking Jaeger. They seem to listen pretty well and give thorough check ups.
Just to be clear - I do keep up with the rabies vaccines, per the law, it's the parvo, bortadella, lyme, and distemper I get concerned with over vaccinating - especially since we use flea and tick preventatives, and i check him thoroughly any time we've been in long grass or the woods. He is not boarded, and doesn't attend doggy daycare anymore, and we're not in a high-parvo area.
I'll make it a point to take him in yearly check ups. It's just annoying when they charge an arm and a leg to weigh him, look in his ears and at his teeth, and then go "yup, he looks happy and healthy. Keep up whatever you're doing. Oh by the way, shell out even more for all these vaccines he doesn't really need or you're a bad dog mom."
