Honestly? If you aren't planning on getting super serious with photos, JPEG will be just fine.

RAW allows for a MUCH greater ability to edit colors, highlights& shadows, white balance& it is uncompressed. It also means you'll get duller colors& loss of sharpness. Plus you'll need special software to edit before you can even post them anywhere.

RAW files come meant to be edited. I use Lightroom but I'm sure there are several free programs+ a program comes in your DVD packet when you buy a camera. They produce a better final result (and can save your bum if you didn't nail your settings in camera) but they are also more work if you just want to shoot& share!

I have Canon, but I changed to shooting in RAW in menu, under photo quality.
