in September 2006, www.whydoemypet.com was launched by a group of veterinarians specialising in a range of species, from dogs & cats to hamsters & fish.

Their aim: to connect pet owners with vets, vet techs, breeders, trainers, behaviorists and general enthusiasts via a safe and user friendly online venue.

Hello Dr Homfray! I did check out this site. Sounds like an excellent place to get medical information for a pet owner, especially from someone like yourself. But there were no trainers, behaviorists, groomers or breeders. (Other than veterinarians, just a petstore manager and a kennel employee.) Also, it looks like the pet owner must open an account first and pay to have their questions answered? I realize I may not be navigating this website correctly... so could you please confirm that? Thank you!

Why Does My Pet...?

Hi there,

1) Only the first batch of experts that have signed up are listed on the site at the moment. Because we have to screen each expert application, there is a bit of a delay before they make it onto the listing as we do it in batches.

2) A $5 deposit must be placed before a question can be answered, via Paypal. This is to ensure that only serious questions are asked. The deposit is fully refundable if the 'question asker' is not satisfied with the answer provided.

Hope this clarifies things - the site is recently launched and will evolve as necessary to suit pet owners needs.
