None of my dogs are chipped. They wear collars most of the time if I am out somewhere with tags on and the ones who are spayed have a tattoo in the ear and people in this area know to phone the one Vet Hospital and they can tell from the tattoo and type of dog whose dog it is. They have a tag on the collar with the Vet Hospital phone number on it.

We returned a lost Shih Tzu when we checked for the tattoo and phoned up the Vet hospital.

Our golden retriever is chipped, but I haven't gotten around to updating the info since we have moved recently. However, the local vet didn't even have a microchip scanner the last I checked anyhow so I am not in a hurry to do so (very rural area). Both of our dogs do wear collars with id tags, especially when we are traveling. I do know there is a possibility of slipping a collar or losing tags, but I still trust them more than just the chip. I haven't decided if we will be microchipping our pup yet or not.
