It wasnt' the seed, i am super careful, and they go through it fast. It is kept in a tin inside, and i feed twice a day a couple cups at a time for the cardinals and my little birds.
Almost ready. I need dirt, i need wire, i need stuff i am not going to be able to get. I still need dirt, that is a given, but if all you have to work with is sticks, and this ball of twine i found for 89 cents at the weird goodwill by the pound store, then sticks it is. These will be my trellises.
still working on this one, for peas, and or some lemon cucumbers for Hyia and Baylee
Changed the walk way for Victor and so i can stop stepping in mud. Took the rocks from teh borders of the beds that i put down originally. Need more of those too. Which will probalby come one at a time from the river with Hyia.
I should be able to trellis two tomatoes right between the slats of my stick fence here. THe purple Cherokee did and excellent job of it there last year.
I have sent for some blue butterfly pea, and i have moon flowers started, as well as my morning glories. Going back to the flying saucer and blue ones i like best. I was not overly pleased with last years. THey were interesting, but small and the bloom season was short lived.
Strawberry patch looked better this year when i uncovered it. The year before i think i had my mulch too thick, and it matted down, this year i used less, and kept it fluffy. i have removed all dead debris and as much of the straw as i can. My skins are up and skittering around to my great happiness .One ran over Jory's hand, he is my grandson, 11 while he was watching for them. YOu can hear them rustle here and there.
IT doesn't hurt that the garden has had some waking up with bubbles and children laughter either. I think of it as the most important ingredient of all.
Little people are growing so fast, but they still like it here and say ?not long enough" when the parents come. They will be helping me find long straight or insteresting sticks by the river i am going to need help. We have a full spot in the community garden this year. And again, i need trellises, and such, so...... They have already done a dandy job of filling the little red wagon with compost and running it down to our plot. : ) The goal is to grow tomatoes, cucumbers and beets for pickles, and squash and okra this year. And of course, an abundance of lettuce for Baylee and Hyia. That i will will grow kind of everywhere. So thank you SKinks and soon to be toads i hope for your appetites..
a little music in my head to work by doesn't hurt either. THis is a good working song.
i love my piano. I love when the birds sing while i am playing too. It reminds me when i was small and my caged finches would give all they had while i practiced. I don't put birds in cages anymore. I do not judge others that do, it is just a personal choice after working in the pet trade and seeing what i saw. Now i just enjoy the ones outside, and am thrilled when they choose to join with me for a little fun.
