I truly did not realize how much I would adore having a small dog. Hambone's 21 pounds and 15 3/4" at the shoulder, so he's not tiny, but he is small and lap-sized and pretty much just wonderful.

I also was not a fan of docked tails, and it took me a long time to warm up to Uly's because I couldn't see it. I felt like I was missing an important barometer for his emotional state.

Weeks after leaving the shelter, staying with me, and being adopted and returned twice, the nub finally popped up and wiggled. It happens a lot more often now, but I still find it brain-meltingly adorable. "Eeee! You have a tail!" *wagwagwagwagwagwagwag*

Never thought I'd like small or hyper, yet Knarly was both of these things. I'm not sure, but I think it was his size that made the hyper part seem less abrasive. I never really considered him 'hyper' or high energy until my mom made a comment about it and I got to thinking, dang he REALLY is a little spitfire.
