Gusto will get tugging on just about anything, but he's had a tug kind of like this one since he was about 4 months old, and it is his most favorite tug ever. He will drop whatever he is doing for it.

Meg will hardly tug on anything, but has one toy that I carefully clicker trained her to tug on, and she will even at an agility trial. The velcro is dying and it smells like the tug itself is dead as well, but I am terrified that if I wash it or try to replace it, she will stop playing. It kind of looks like this, but with a fleece handle.

A 6 foot length of 3/4inch thick cotton rope.
Or, one of these: http://www.ruffwear.com/Gourdo_Dog_T...=2&category=14
The Shiba will tug with anything though, he doesn't care.
