Does anyone know of any German Shepherd Dog Breeders near/in Houston, TX? Anywhere in Texas is probably okay, but near Houston is best. I prefer working bred German Shepherds over show lines. It still isn't 100% that we are going to relocate over there, but when we do, there is a big chance that we will be getting a GSD pup. So we might as well do research now and be safe rather than sorry.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Off the top of my head, I know of Germelhaus German Shepherds and Rallhaus German Shepherds. I believe the latter is right around Houston? Not sure whereabouts Germel is...
Good luck! I look forward to maybe seeing some baby GSD pictures around. I can't wait to get another.

Thanks for the suggestions
I had seen Rallhaus Shepherds, but hadn't found Germelhaus. Thanks again for the links! And yes, I can't wait for a puppy GSD, either. I've had puppy fever for a while, so I knew it was coming sooner or later.

My friend that breeds used to be by the DFW area but they just moved to CT or NY or somewhere super far away...not much help
![]() Are you against shipping a puppy? That would open your options up a lot as far as timing and availability and bloodlines etc.

I'd prefer not to ship, due to convenience etc.

A friend of mine has a Germelhaus dog. He is VERY drivey. VERY. Are you planning on doing any dog sports at all? I assume when you mean showline, you are talking about AKC?

I'm hoping to do either agility or flyball, although I'm leaning more towards agility. I don't think we'll really be competing, though, it'll be more just for fun than from competition.
By showlines, I mean both AKC and German bloodlines. I'm not against owning one, I just prefer working breds.

Aside from Germelhaus, the other working line breeders that come to mind are
van Meerhout: http://www.vanmeerhoutshepherds.com/ and GerdesHaus: http://www.gerdeshaus.com/ I have never personally met dogs from either kennel nor have I worked with the breeders before. I do know of a few people who own and work their van Meerhout dogs and are happy with what they have, and I like their breeding stock on paper. Definitely worth taking a look at, and same goes for GerdesHaus. I know even less about the latter, only that a friend had been planning on getting a puppy from them (did not end up working out due to timing/personal reasons, nothing to do with the breeder).
