I think I posted here about Cricket's tail a couple weeks ago...came home and it had a pretty serious bend in it (still don't know how she did it). We tried splinting it as per the vet's instruction, but it's been about two weeks since the splint has been off and it's obviously still hurting her. We went back to the vet this morning and got the news that the last third of it is dead. :( She's going in for her spay next week so they're going to amputate that part at the same time. Surgery is in ten days, hopefully it will heal without any issues so she can get back to being herself.

I know that this is what needs to be done and that it shouldn't impair her in the slightest, but I'm so upset. I'm going to miss her long beautiful plumy tail.

I thought it'd be interesting to see what everyone keeps out for their dogs, if anything, and how they store it! I know there was an organization thread, but it'd be neat just to see what toys everyone has... I'm kind of a toy junky so I'm always looking for new, neat, durable toys for the boys. They just got this new basket a few weeks ago.

Share pictures and such!

Luckily, my dogs don't guard toys so they have this slew out all the time to play/chew on. Some random ropes, a safestix, kong squeaker balls of various sizes and shapes, rubber toys, a few nylabones, atom ball, ruffwear squash, JW squeaker ball and cuz's, frisbee, fluffy random carcasses, jolly ball-ish thing, etc.

Then they have the "good" toy box that they don't have unlimited access to. This has the stuff that they use for training/drive/engagement and only get when we're playing together. Chuck it, ultra balls, ball holder, tug on a rope, jute tug, three different frisbees, dumbell, bumper, birch q tips, a wubba, orbee on a rope, raquetball, good cuz, and zanie stuffy. Oh, and a target lid. XD

Due to lack of wanting to have multiple types of food in the house...does a puppy REALLY need puppy food? Or is adult food okay?

For a dog that will be maturing 80-90 pounds, is a large breed puppy food needed, or would just a "generic size" puppy food be okay?

I've always switched over my pups to adult food when they were around 5-6 months old, but they've all been medium sized dogs. That still okay?

I'm realizing I haven't done this puppy thing in about six years. LOL Should be interesting.

Mike and I went out to my parents house to help my mom with her flowerbeds. (Which consisted of taming a jungle and finally finding flowers underneath it all.) While taking a lunch break inside, Mike sat down beside Apollo on the couch. Amusement followed.

Apollo used to growl at Mike's CAR he detested Mike so much. After two years, he's finally come accept him. Mostly. A bit. Sort of. LOL

Awwww, see, look. So sweet. My two boys sleeping on the couch together.

Then....Mike started to pet him. LOL

(He "bites" and "grabs" and "kicks"...but he never breaks skin. Mike is used to this by now.)

So Mike proceeded to poke at the cat, because that is how the two of them interact:

And the cat, even while being bad, still looks freaking adorable:

That is my kitty. ^^ He's such a brat, but we love him anyway.

My dog Venice (1.5 year old spayed female mutt) has had a crappy few days.

Background info - I adopted her in January, and while she won't pull to say hello to everyone in the street, she happily accepts attention from strangers when we are outdoors, and goes gaga for them when we are in the house. I lived with two roommates until the end of April, we're all college-aged and had friends over frequently. There was never a problem. Venice would curl up on strangers' laps, and a group of loud drunks stumbling home at 1am? That was cause for lots of tail wagging.

Until Wednesday. She saw a rollerblader and literally thought she was going to die. She's never encountered a rollerblader with me, so I don't know (and frankly don't care since it's not relevant either way) if had a bad experience before I got her, or if the movement just freaked her out.

We were in a tunnel and unable to gain any distance, even though I asked the person to stop and let us leave the tunnel. As the rollerblader went by Venice flattened herself to the ground and crapped all over herself.

Thursday one zipped by us again - I was able to get some distance but not enough to get her under threshold. She wasn't barking or reacting, but had full piloerection and was pulling as hard as she could to create some distance. For the rest of the walk she was leery of people, giving them a wide berth and keeping a close eye on them as we passed.

She went to daycare on Friday and the trainer who was supervising that morning told me Venice was quite shy when her husband came to visit and wouldn't approach him unless his back was turned, and then only to sniff at him briefly. That afternoon when she was hanging out by the big front windows, another rollerblader apparently went by and spooked her.

This weekend we had a lot of family over (all essentially strangers to the dog, some of them she had only met once or twice so I don't count them) and she was extremely nervous. If someone other than myself or my parents entered the room she was alarm barking/growling, pacing, and trying to find an exit. She spent most of the time in a quiet room by herself because she was clearly so stressed, and we left early.

She is also barking and growling at the sound of cars in our driveway, steps on the deck, the door opening, and becomes visibly nervous when she hears them. These same sounds used to get her happy and excited.

I've never seen this dog so fearful, and it all started literally overnight after having the scary rollerblader encounter. I can't imagine how such a sweet friendly dog must be feeling inside to act out like this. Everything about her just screams 'I need space right now' but she is still her wiggly self with those of us who are really close to her. For her to just lie down and lose control of her bowels on Wednesday she must have been totally horrified.

Sorry this was so long and rambly... I just wanted to share. Has anyone else had a dog develop such a sudden fear and become the total opposite of the dog they used to be? I'd love some support or any similar stories you have. I just want to help this nervous wreck of a dog get back to the Venice I knew for four months.

I love these next few, on this next one, notice the tight bond between handler and dog, I don't know if it's Jedi mind trick, Vulcan mind meld, or just plain 'ol body english, but notice the toe curl on Jess and the body curl by Dex

and on this one, notice the toe point, beautiful and straight. Wouldn't you know?? The dog is straight too.
Coincidence? I thought so too, until the next frame. Foot flat almost flat on the ground, dog landing almost flat on the ground. Hmmmmmmmm?

You as a woman or a man, would you be OK with a Synthetic Diamond instead of a real diamond?

Women, would you be ok with a synthetic diamond for an engagement ring.

It's late and I can't sleep so I am doing research on mostly Synthetic Diamonds. HA HA!

But wanted reviews on the functionality of the harness as well. :)

I really like the looks of it.

Confused on sizing though. Jackson is approx 17lbs with a 19.5" girth. I can't decide to go with "Mini-Mini" or just "Mini"

Did not know if they ran big or small etc.

Mini-Mini:Chest Measurement 18 - 21.5 inches. Weight 8.8 - 15Lbs. 4-7Kg
Mini:Chest Measurement 18 - 23.5 inches. Weight 15 - 33Lbs.7-15Kg

Also, didn't know the difference between the original or the "IDC" harness.
